warpspeed y-pipe question
warpspeed y-pipe question
so i installed the y pipe and i know i was going to get some bees in a can but its pretty bad i was wondering if there was any cure other than time?

its welded, so your saying go through all that trouble of removing the y, cutting the flex and rewelding on the new flex?

yea as stated on their website "Y PIPE FEATURES 3" LINED FLEX SECTION TO ELIMINATE BEES IN THE CAN SOUND"
good thing I ordered the cattman instead of the ****ty warpspeed...

My budget has bees in the can sound as well, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. Only time I hear it is when I listen to it, but when driving it's the same as stock. My intake covers up the bees when driving anyway

Anybody else have any luck with exhaust wrap?

it will eventually wear out. and it is more prone to rusting if yours isn't SS, since the wrap locks in moisture and condensation.

I wish I woulda gone with a Cattman. The Warpspeed I got a couple of months ago has the bees in the can... embarrassing sound = a testament to their quality as this seems common. No response from them when I politely asked about mine... but they were quick to respond to take my money for the sale.
Well, it seems to be that the flex section of the warpspeed aluminized y-pipe is stainless so you should be able to put exhaust wrap on the flex section without rusting.

Edit: I just looked around on their website and found that header wrap will decrease the life expectancy of either the stainless or the aluminized pipe by 50%.

They have terrible customer service. I wanted to order their full system exhaust and they told me to call back in 3 weeks because they needed the parts to make them...I called back and they actually stopped making the full systems for the maxima's...
I got my Warpspeed aluminized y-pipe in the mail last Friday. I'm going to get it installed during my lunch break today.
From what I can tell, the quality looks good. I'm not exactly what you would call a weld inspector though.
I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

I have to say I cannot recommend this y-pipe. At about 4k, you start to hear the "hissing" sound (almost like a turbo). Other than that, it sounds like stock. There is more power up top (past 4k).
Since the flex section is stainless steel, I'll probably get some header wrap and see if that quietens the hissing sound. It'll probably be awhile before I get to it though.

We have sold over 6,000 Y pipes at last count, typically there is no hissing, but because we use 2.5" tubing which is larger tubing the 2.25" some of the others like stillen and c**man use it may magnify what little exhaust turbulence remains in the lined flex section which is afterall what causes the hissing. The stock Y pipe has a flex section that is not lined but it is 2 inch.
I would check for a gasket misaligned first or a loose bolt, we've seen it happen. If there is a leak there will be soot.
Searching through my email for the last 3 years I found one email referencing bees in a can or hissing. I have not received any phone calls regarding it. My sister Lynne is pretty good about having me return calls and emails. So............... perhaps if there is a problem, email or call us rather than just say we have poor customer service here on the forum because we almost never visit the forums. If you don't call or email there is little chance we will be able to respond to your real or imagined problem but then you probably know that. Amazingly none of the local installs we do ever have a problem.
As far as cat-backs go we decided there was a little bigger market for catbacks for the Nissan Titan, 5.7L Toyota Tundra and Tacoma pickups and right now only make them for the local market.
Referencing the equal length Y pipe comment: We have made several equal length Y pipes but found no difference on the dyno nor did it sound any different than any other unequal length Y pipe we tested, nor did it sound different than the equal length stillen Y pipe we compared it to (but the stillen did have a hiss because the flex was not lined).
They were more labor intensive, we felt that if it did not make a difference there was really no point in making them in numbers.
So, I would check the gasket alignment, personally I would not use header wrap even on stainless because it overheats the metal and will cause the flex section to fail.

The hissing comes on suddenly at 4k, and does sound like it could be an air leak around the gaskets. Is that what it sounds like to you Dallas?
When I get a chance, I'll have the shop take another look at it. Hopefully they can fix the problem.
