Sell my car or get this done?

I'm getting the 1005 EGRC Solenoid Valve.

It's at the dealer today, the mechanic wants 300 to fix that, Fine since I couldn't figure it out (spent all of saturday trying).

They also want to clean out all the carbon build up for 400. Isnt it cheaper to replace the canister and it will solve this?

They want to do my drive belts for 300 - which sounds really high.

They also caught a code for the TCM to ECM Link, Diagnostic code 54, and he said he needed to run 10 Tests. the grand total is like 1200 is what he wants to charge.

Can someone give me an idea of more reasonable charges to fix the aforementioned problems. I'm thinking i should just sell the car, it runs great, just won't pass the emissions tests because of the CEL.

You can remove the IACV and EGR Valve yourself and clean up all the carbon build up. As far as the drive belts, you can do it as well. I'm not sure about the TCM. There is writeups on under the stickies

I am not in any condition to do anything myself (unrelated).

The only good news was the mechanic told me the computer was fine. I went to a shop previously and they told me it would need replacement. I trust a certified nissan mechanic more than a regular shop. It's a great car, Automatic, but I can't justify paying over $500 to repair it when I rarely drive it.

I'm going to have to sell it.

do what i do. Buy a scanner from ebay. Erase the code, drive for about 50 miles and you'll pass the emissions.

Temp solution till you can get it fixed cheaper.

The TCM code you have sounds like the communication link problem code, p0600 I think....

That can be fixed with tightening up the screw on the back of the speedo on your gauge cluster....

you also probally have a VSS code too...those two come together on our cars...

If I still have the car when I get home today, ill give that a shot. I just took apart the entire gauge cluster last Saturday and couldn't see anything wrong. And yes i'm getting the VSS Code, but i've replaced the sensor, checked the wiring with a multimeter at several points and it *seems* fine. I'll try the screw if I get a chance.

I've borrowed a Scanner from Autozone, the emissions test reported "Not Ready" on all the tests because I reset my codes - it would've failed anyway with the EGRC Solenoid Code.

And I just replaced all my O2 sensors, Spark Plugs, Speed Sensor, to think I need to dish out another 1.2K, takes the life from me.

the belts are WAY over priced at 300$. i dont see any other shop charing over 100$ for them.

Honestly the belts cost about 20$ and since you in chicago there a lot of local guys on chicagomaximaclub.com who will do your belts for like less then $50 in 10 mins.

If the ECU hasn't had enough time to throw any codes, they generally know, will send you back out and tell you to return when you've driven more. Maybe you've gotten lucky.

egrc solenoid valve is easy to replace, if that's whats wrong and you're getting the 1005 code. it's just like unplug a harness, couple hoses, and unscrew the thing off. it's in an easy location to access as well.

if your just trying to take off the light you can just use a screwdriver next to your gas pedal, when you erase the code with a scanner is it permanently gone?

For Code 1005
Pullout the small vaccum hoses and spary little carb cleaner in them and in EGRC valve. reset light and it would be fine.
but 2-3 months down the road you will hit code p0400 because your EGR system is plugged with carbon.
you have to clean it manually.

For Engine decarbon:
Go to any GM Dealer and ask for Engine witty ( IIRC) machine, it should be around 250$ after that pull oil pan down and clean. fill with new oil. you are good to go for years.

Belts :
www.pinnaclenissan.com I think both belts will be 25$ shipped and would be max 1hr labor to put them on.

Goodluck
