hotter temps affecting engine???

yes, i know that hotter and colder temps affect the engine's performance but to what degree??? my concern is, i'm at 165,500 and the engine's burning up oil faster and other than the bg treatment what else can i do to protect engine against the higher temps??? the dealer uses the partially synthetic oil and then they right up the oil change as being 3,700 till next one. i don't wait that long. i always do at 3,000.

inspect and service the cooling system ie. check hoses, pressure test the cap, replace coolant, etc

new rad, fluid was new last year. i have a coolant bypass leak that just started, just minor seepage from one end. otherwise, i check coolant level every week.

What do you mean burning up oil faster? If that was of concern you might have to worry about what is causing it and its not necessarily a hotter temperature engine.

if youre burning oil i suggest you do a compression test. Temps dont have anything to do with burning oil up thats a internal problem youre looking at. if it comes down to having to tear down the engine you should just buy a low mileage one itll be about the same price but a lot less headache

na, all high mileage cars i've ever owned burn up oil faster. it seems the faster you drive the car, the more stress your putting on it, hence oil is burning up as a result. i was just rying to get a way to keep it from burning up so fast. and, the heat does effect the cars performance just like the cold does as well. engine swap is not an option right now. unless you want to offer up a low mileage engine for free??

Not really, its those that are not properly maintenance that are burning oil, could be anything to a piston ring to a leaky oil pan gasket. Try to do a compression test and post up the results as well as a leak down test if you can.

man o man, yes i have a monor rear main seal leak that drips only when i am driving. i mean like 2 drips every 50 miles or so. i forgot all about that, the friggin seals not even wet, and there's no way i am replacing that. i've read other people saying they did that and like 6 or 12 months later its leaking again.
