I have a '01 Icelandic Pearl SE. I was putting gas in the car today and some of it spilled down the side. I took a rag and wiped it off, thinking I had gotten it all. (Didn't have time to go wash it off at the car wash!).

Got home, washed the car by hand from top to bottom. Got to the gas tank area and there are YELLOW STEAKS and STAINS where the gas hit the car. THEY WON'T COME OFF!

What can I use to get it off? HELP!

thats strange because I think maximas have a clear coat, the yellow stains are only common in paint i think are known as "single stage" well I dunno why this happened but this is what I would try, use some sand paper very lightly and then use some buffing compound and try to buff it out, if your not too good or gentle I would ask somone to do it who knows what they are doing, this is only my 2 cents...

There must be some liquid to do it...cuz the sanding is only for rust...and he has some yellow crap on it

Maybe try a clay bar Seems that they do a good job of cleanig up the surface. At least it won't do any damage.

I would try the clay bar frist too. Only use the buffing compound as a last ditch effort.

I have a lot of trouble getting the yellow bug stains off my Max.. But I have discovered that if I leave the car in the sun for a few hours they actually fade.

Easy Does It

Always start with the least abrasive/agressive solution first and work your way from there. I would try washing with Dawn (regular car wash soap is formulated to avoid stripping wax - which also contains petroleum-based products). Next, I'd try cleaner wax or a clay bar. Then, maybe, I'd go to a stain remover like 3M's Swirl & Scratch Remover. My last resort would be a faded-finish restoration wax-type product. If none of the above work, go to a good body shop. No offense, but sanding and rubbing compounds can do a lot of damage quickly - I don't think they're worth the risk - just my opinion of course. Good luck!

try just a plain wax to see if that works.... then move on to maybe a polish or glaze. If those don't work, then go to the hasher cleaners of swirl removers..

Turtle Wax make a fine scratch remover, basically a very fine polish. This should take the stain out, just rub lightly.
Then rinse and re-wax. Use terry cloth towels for all of this.

Well that could be the bug "guts" drying off and just dispersing to the ground. But I heard that bugs on your paints finish + sun = a very nasty chemical reaction that like goes inside the paint, so I don't really know. That is I guess why my car is silver :P

I use some stuff called "Bug and Tar Remover" (actual name)
or diluted simple green.
