Q about manual tranny...

i just had a quick question if someone could answer for me....

what rpms and speed does the 5spd tranny do....as in what mph do you come out of 1st gear and at what rpm and so on and so forth....

Also if someone can also tell me the same answer if it was a 6spd....Plus if you would be able to tell me if you were in 3rd gear in both the 5spd and the 6spd what rpm would you be at at 60mph...

thanks guys

Shift points are well documented in the owners manual. Tells you exactly when to shift for performance and economy.

1st-38ish
2nd-62ish
3rd-85ish
4th-?
5th-?

at 70 mph i'm at about 3 grand exactly.
at 60 mph i'm at about 2700

The reason why i said "ish" is becuase i'm running slightly bigger side walls so my speedo is off by just a little bit.

The data on the left is the stock 5spd gear ratios and the maximum speeds you can reach in each gear with a 235-45-17 tire. Whether or not you want to actually shift at those speeds depends upon your powerband.

that wasn't my intention of course, I just had that graphic made for another post I made a couple weeks ago and it applied here so I thought I'd share it.

Looks like Pulsar GTI-RB gears with a Maxima final drive ratio:

EDIT: Also, the image filename is 6550stockvsRB, just saw that. Found the info by googling the gear ratios.

If you granny shift at 2000-2500 rpm
1st - 0-5mph
2nd - 5-20mph
3rd - 20-30mph
4th - 30-40mph
5th - 40-50mph

If you drive like a bat out of hell at 5500-6000 rpm
1st - 0-30mph
2nd - 30-60mph
3rd - 60-90mph
4th - 90mph+
5th - unneccessary

Normally I'll do a happy medium at 2800-3200 rpm

1st - 0-15mph
2nd - 15-30mph
3rd - 30-45mph
4th - 45-60mph
5th - 60mph+

Of course, keep in mind that I put it in neutral when braking, and if I need to pass or accelerate quickly, I'll go one gear lower than I would normally be in.

Interesting. I have a GTI-R tranny in parts now in my garage (the regular ratios, not the RB rallying model). You'd have to fit a 4th gen reverse gear mechanism on to allow reverse gear though.

I guess my calcs are pretty close. IIRC, these were done w/ 215/60-15 (unloaded)
