New PB - 15.865 @ 87.60 - 2.434 60' - 2001 Automatic

Took the family car out to the track for the 2nd time....

'01 Auto (3.0)....Intake, Drop Resistor removed, Timing Advance (2*), some weight reduction......Front tire pressure @ 28psi, rear at 40psi

Now for a before and after:

BEFORE: (June 8th, 2007)

(1st time @ the track, Suspension was very erratic, Vias was out.......Conditions werent good, 95 degrees and high humidity)

Timeslip
R/T: 0.944
60': 2.605
330': 7.023
1/8: 10.617 @ 69.01 mph
1000: 13.684
1/4: 16.325 @ 84.24 mph

AFTER: (August 17th, 2007)

(2nd time at the track, Suspension fixed, Vias fixed....nothin added from last time)

Timeslip
R/T: 0.325
60': 2.434
330': 6.773
1/8: 10.2.88 @ 70.57 mph
1000: 13.293
1/4: 15.865 @ 87.60 mph

Conditions were good this time around, track was decent (Edgewater, Cincinnati, OH): 80 degrees and low humidity

- 1100 rpm launch - (auto)
- Remained in drive ("D") the entire time

Comments:

Car felt great....Conditions were nice.....Was able to get off the line pretty clean this time around and I felt ALOT more comfortable being my 2nd time at the track.....

Made 4 passes, all back-to-back, times ranged (in order) from 15.946, 15.979<<<no brake torquing.....followed by, 15.865, and 15.892<<<brake torquing to 1100 rpms (all in drive, "D")

Went to let it cool down for a bit, and just as I was about to make a final pass, they shut the track down a little early. Really felt the car has alot more potential, and is still being held back somewhat.....(On my final pass I was gonna try startin in 2nd ("2"), and shift up to "D" @ around 5500 rpms (read this was the way to go with Auto's), and drop the tire pressure to 24psi, but I never got a chance. I really felt with a good 60' (low 2.3's, high 2.2's, for auto's), while trying this method, would net me a low 15.7 or even possibly a high 15.6.)

My next direction Im gonna to go is probably an AFC (VAFC II), along with a bigger MAF, and a Dyno tune.....(think im runnin lean).....or possibly a Y-Pipe to eliminate one of my pre-cats.

Overall on the night, I was pretty happy with the half-second improvement (nothin added), and must say I met alot of cool people, with some very nice rides....

oh ya, and I had a blast....

Not bad at all for such a low rpm launch (even for auto)....

Nice runs. I am suprised you didn't try to manual shift. My friend has a 01 Max like yours with I/E and stillen y-pipe and he gets much better results with manual shifting over leaving it in D. His car seems to upshift 500rpm before redline around 6000rpm in 1st gear unless he manually shifts it to around 6500rpm.

I got a 15.8 my last time at the track with a stock VQ30 launch off idle, toolbox in the trunk with a bad MAF

Sure your VIAS is operational? IIRC (and I'm gonna look for the slip) my trap speed was right around there with the USIM...

Yeah, I was just about to try manual shifting when they decided to shut the track down about 25 minutes early (not sure why).

Lookin to go again in the next week or two, and should be hittin 15.7's or possibly a 15.6, manual shifting w/a higher rpm launch, along with lowering my tire pressure; Im hopin it adds up to a good 60', which should also add up to a faster quarter and a better trap.

Tbh, I still havent had a good 60' yet, and I believe hooking up is where my problem lies...........plus my heavy *** 17 inch alloy wheels sure arent helping things either (50 pounds a piece, with tire inflated to 32psi)

Thanks for the replies though, they are appreciated.

With a 2.2 60' i'd be surprised if you're not in the 15.7 area. I guess fixing the car is always a good thing! Anythign else we should fix on it?

I gotta get my exhaust leaks fixed on my car so maybe we can hit that up next weekend or the weekend after that! Lemme know wassup.

1. thats around the 1/4 mile time of a Ferrari 308 gtsi (15.6) FYI!!!!
2. Not bad times, but would agree manual shift the bish. Full Rpm range (shift at 6500 to avoid hitting redline)

Not sure who told you that, bit IMO, it's false.

So what do you recommend, Nmex? Shifting @ 6500, just before redline, as Doc stated above?

(as I understand it, you have an auto, too....so I trust your judgement )

Ive done it about 6 times at the track and consistently I get 2/10ths shaved off my QM time if I shift rather than leave it in drive. The Key is not to hit the rev limiter... I recommend practicing under normal driving conditions first to get the feel for it.

BTW. that was when I didnt have a turbo set up.

It states in a previous post you were looking for a y-pipe, I have one listed on ebay under 2000 maxima cattman y-pipe if youre interested.

Considering the typical DEK powerband and horrendous AT ratios, yes, just before rev cut. And Do not tap the limiter.

.2 tenths of a second, eh Doc?.....That gives me a bit of hope....Definitely will try practicing this before I hit the track next time.

As for the Y-pipe, man I would jump on that right now if not for money being a bit tight atm and me being in between jobs right now.

$1100 a month house payment + car payment + two kids tends to hold me back, sometimes........but they are worth it....

:
My buddy I was telling you about also shaved off .2 tenths and added 2MPH to his trap with manual shifting at 6500rpm.
