Metal grinding near pulley area

For the last few days when I start up the car, its been making a metal grinding noise, like turning rotors or metal rubbing up againts other metal. I did a search here and found only a few similar problems with no responses. It seems like its increasing day 2 day, any ideas.

Worn bearing.

Remove the belts and rotate the pulleys, looking for the one that doesn't feel glassy smooth.

check your alternator and your ac compressor. i bet it's the clutch in your ac compressor.

Metal Grinding?

Mine was doing the same thing, but only when I turned on the a/c. I let it go too long then I had smoke coming from my hood. It ended up being the a/c compressor. Clutches went out.

Does it just make the noise when it starts or while it's running?

as mentioned earlier, take off your alternator belt and spin the pullies with your hand, they should smoothly.

I dont think its the alt. the sound comes right from near the wheel, when it stops raining here, im gonna loosen it up and check the belts and pulleys like dgeesaman and konak85 suggested.

Side note- If it is the UDP is it worth the upgrade or not? simple yes or no would suffice.

Now would the ac comp. make that sound even though my ac isnt on?

And, yes I think it does only do it on startup.

Hmm, I never noticed any gains from the UR UDP. I know it freed up some power due to its weight but nothing I could feel. Paired with a lightened flywheel and the RPMS definately climbed faster.
