Hey ya only live once, and you may only have one chance to mod a car. So do it up man, but make sure to leave some money for the foods and ladies haha.

I hear that wirelessdude. I've had my car for 5 years this month and I'm still stock everything. After checking out this forum since i was 17, I finally signed up this month and I already started to order some little things... I can see this is going to become a huge problem, ESPECIALLY since I'm closing on my first house on the 31st.

Self control. It's not easy! But, a guy's gotta eat!! If you're in the middle of a project and you need to finish it, finish it up and just try to be good until you have some extra $$$

BE STRONG!

spending $ on mods is ok as long as u make it an asset and not liability. So mod away so long as u win some races or competitions.

I think if something breaks in your car, and there's an upgraded part, that's probably ok, assuming the upgraded part lasts longer, increases reliability, or safety. That pretty much tosses out any mod that makes your car look "better" like clear corners or tail-light overlays.

It happens. Just remember that its all about priorities. In my previous college years, I was irresponsible and bought mods instead of books haha. Now I buy bike parts instead (which for some reason, cost as much as maxima mods in some areas lol). Also, you use your car everyday so why not spend a little on it. Might as well enjoy it.

Same thing here. We just bought a house and have spent boatloads of money on it. The car got jealous and threw a temper tantrum...requiring $200 to put right.

I couldn't disagree with you more... Mod for what you like, not what wins competitions unless that is what you like.

Same here. Two weeks ago I spent 1k on suspension alone. It looks like It becomes addicting to mod especially when you read the sticky's and old threads in the org. Then you start modding even though people around you tells you to "spend $$ on smth else" OR "don't waste your time on old car cause it'll be never good as new". Sometimes modding and fixing your own car can be good too- you'll be physically active and don't eat alot- so it's a free diet! Lol j/k... At least we're not spending money on bad things like lottery, gambling or smoking pot...
Modding a car is like playing video games -you'll know that your money and time can be spent on smth better but you choose to do it and enjoy doing it. But it can become addicting to the point where it interferes with your daily life-which is bad.
Anyway, it's your money and your car-so GL with it!

The guy said money was tight which'll likely hurt his education if he doesn't budget correctly. I think his education has a better chance of getting him through life than a body kit.

Weekly trips to Hawaii is what many people like, but time and money tradeoff wouldn't make sense.

? What does "you should only mod to win competitions" have to do with his education. I agree that a bodykit has far less value than an education. Your second analogy is totally lost on me....

Hawaii != modding a vehicle to suit your personal taste

I know what you mean, I wanted a audio system for my car, I told myself something simple. Now 3 days later, I'm $1000 poorer.

Hahahahaha.. amusing thread. I bought my max for $2300, 2 years and 1 month ago. Right now, it stands me $16,200. Sometimes I wonder why the hell I spent all that money on it.. I could've bought several other nicer cars for THAT money! BUT, I love my maxima.. the only thing I have left I wanna do is supercharging, BUT I'm at the point NOW where I dont know if I wanna do it anymore. The max is PRETTY MUCH done.. I think I may just leave it N/A and make my next car a turbo off the lot..
Hmm...

I think u missed his point, or I'm missing yours. The person said he's tight on cash. How is modding going to help his situation, long or short term?

The 2nd analogy was in response to your "mod for what you like". Maybe Hawaiian vacations isn't your thing. What is? And would you take a big loss and big risk with no return to satisfy "what you like" when there are other priorities to take care of? Keep in mind that "money is tight".

I just noticed that OP admitted that modding has become a "big problem". Why are you encouraging him to continue modding? That's like going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and telling them to keep drinking cuz it makes them happy.

It's all about spreading it out. Sometimes being patient is the best thing to do. It's hard to make the choice of one big thing, or a few small things.

dude the modding bug is a great high !! lol ! its pure sanity !! once i saved up 1000 bucks for mods, my tooth started hurting right.... went to dentist.

dentist: your tooth is in bad shape you will need a root canal and it will cost around $700 dollars.

ceasar: how much to pull it ?

dentist: $50

ceasar: pull it !

no way i was spending my mod money on a root canal !

LOL. but yea dont go too crazy. save money for the ladies too, just gotta have balance thats all.

Whats up

My name is Matt of course. I own a 2006 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V. I just swapped out the motor and put in a VQ35DE out of an '04 Maxima. I can't really do much on Sentra Forums anymore because of the engine swap so I wanted to check out other places and caught this site. My current mods are Intake, headers, exhaust, clutch, solid front and rear motor mounts, and a flywheel. Is there any other bolt ons that can give true power without spending a ****load? Thanks and hope to have a good time here.

Matt

Man, I just spent $1200.00 on a Alpine deck, new tires, misc. trim parts that were missing, and the rest of my body kit. I bought a parts car two weeks ago for $800.00, and I'm about to spend another $3000.00 on finishing my body work and a full paint job. Then, I gotta finish my system and Nitrous install/tuning. I'm also thinking about new lights all around, since my '96 looks pretty dated. I should be good after that.
