VQ35 Swap into a 5th Gen

Ok guys......i'm not new here and i'm very well aware that i'm about to get flamed for asking this question, but i've searched and i keep finding the answer for the 4th GENS.

I had a 5.5 gen auto....sold her got my S2000. I wanted to get another but they are a lil pricey yet i see the 5th gens for alot cheaper. SO....i was wondering about puting the vq35 engine in it and has anyone here done so?

I've seen lots of you guys go Supercharge or turbo the 3.0 but then again some are having problems. I figured i can find a good used cheap VQ35 and just do the swap and do the normal I/H/E/CAMS/REFLASH......ect ect. And also does the 5th gen tranny bold right up to the vq35?

Help would be appreciated.

if any of you think its better to go FI on the 3.0 then please enlighten me..

Thanks guys!!!

IIRC, A33 VQ35 swap is the same as an A32 swap, except you don't need to swap out the injector harnesses.

Im guessing you don't have to mess with the Immobilzer switch either eh?

Why would you either way, short of going full swap?

I think FI on a 3.5 would be "better".

Yes, all the stuff bolts up. And you can mix/match almost all the parts too. Just make a plan before you get into it:
Using stock exh or aftermarket exh
Doing a full 5.5 swap or just rigging up the 3.5 to work with 3.0 stuff?
You want AT or MT?

As for a complete 5.5 swap, remember it may "seem" easier, but I also looked at doing the 3.0/3.5 swap into my A32. After planning and buying the parts I realized it was going to be as much work to get the 3.0/3.5 running as it would be to just go full Gen 5.5 3.5 in my A32. Sure, the full swap is more electrical work, BUT I did not need to do much mechanical prep. And if you plan on doing a 3.0/3.5 swap you'd probably be rigging up some electronics just to get the VIAS working.

I spent $2g's on my full swap, including everything from a 2004 I35, engine, ECU, AT, TCM, harness, NATS, cluster, etc. I am sure you could find a clean 2000-01 Max/I30 that has a blown motor for dirt cheap and swap in the full 5,5 drivetrain.

I am basically driving a 2004 car with 10K miles on it for a grand total of under $7K invested including original price paid for a super clean 97 SE Max with very high miles (at the time).

That's my take on it if you want to put a nice car for cheap in your garage and are willing to work at it. IMO, I would not do a 3.0/3.5 swap in a Gen 5 car. I'd rather boost the VQ30DE-K or do the full swap. my $0.02

No, im saying.. i would be able to use the KEY i already have for my car.... i have a 01.. i would just have to have it reprogrammed to the ECU right?

old thread FTL, but if i was to do the 3.5 swap (auto) im taking it that the ecu will need (or recommended) to be changed, is there any write ups on that???... i bought my 00 for $4 grand and if i could get the swap done for roughly 2G's, i think i made out better

It will only need to be changed if you want to use the 5.5 gen ECU, which the benefit is CVTC.

Just for my clarification a 5th gen (dek) 3.0 to 3.5 (FULL) swap would not need the nats?

So I'd need

3.5 duh
engine harnass(02-03)
dash harnass(02-03)
3.5 ecu (02-03)
E-gas (02-03)

and then whatever for the tranny......right?

You can't bypass the immobilizer.

You need to understand how the immobilizer works too, not just 'get it'.

An ECU swap isn't necessary. Do you purposely want to swap over to the A33B ECU?

Isn't the wizard having trouble on his 99 with the eu extending his rev limit?(might be an ancient thread I recently read....can't remember). Wouldn't this imply troubles with 5th gens too....or am I wrong?

The rev-limit can be extended using the EU with a 2000 ECU. I have personally done it.
