I purchased my '91 SE last fall, and have had no problems with my front brakes until recently. I have been getting squealing noises that come and go with speed, and turning angle of the front wheels. I have also been getting more heat from the driver's side wheel which is where the sound is coming from. I have also had excessive brake dust. Obviously it would seem like perhaps my caliper is having some problems. Before I figured all this out, I decided it was probably time to replace the pads. So, I went out and bought new pads, but when I went to change them, the old pads still had a good 70% pad life left. I put the old ones back on, and used the "anti-sqeak" goop on them to be sure the pads just hadn't rattled loose and were making the noise due to vibrations. This hasn't helped at all though.

I am considering ordering the caliper rebuild kit from courtesyparts.com, but I have no idea what exactly it consists of, or if it would even help. It seems like my caliper just needs some lubrication or something so that it retracts properly.

I had a similar problem with a rear caliper, and I ordered a "new" used one from usedmaximaparts.com, and installed it. that completely got rid of the problem in the rear. It seems like rebuilding would be a better choice though.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem. One of the pins that your caliper moves on is most likely rusted and stuck in place, causing uneven brake ware among other things. Try takeing out the pins, if they dont come out, good luck getting them out. Liquid wrench and a vice is how I got mine unstock.

NIssan said my rioght caliper wasn't "retracting" all the way, so basically the pad was alwasy rubbing against the rotor(I'm guessing), so there was the slight grinding noise when turning, etc. like you said...anyways ordered 2 rebuilt and loaded capilers form carparts.com for $120, had 'em installed and no more sound! If I were you I'd do the same, or if you're more experienced order your own rebuild kit and DIY!!
