My sister drove the maxima today, and came home with the Check engine light on.
ITs only a 99 with 28K miles!!
I want to kill her!!!
Has this happened to anyone at such a low milage, and what are some stupid reasons the light could come on?

She put it on

No, you have to either run it yourself for the code or have it run by a macanic to see why the computer threw the code

Get the code yourself. Its real easy. I got my first code a couple days ago for the MAF and it was just because I forgot to hook it up after I installed my intake. Its easy to reset too. Instructions are at the link:

My brothers 99 SE-L has only 32k on it and he is getting ECU code 0606 cylinder #3 misfire... he is ****ed after spending $28k for a fully loaded car!

Now he is not sure what to do as the car is ~2 months out of warranty...

Like others have said. Whatever you do DO NOT have a mechanic pull the code for you. If is very easy to do yourself, unless you want to pay 60-100 bucks to have them do something that you can do in less than 5 minutes. Just my opinion. Take Care

Do you guys get a check engine light after getting off the dyno?
In NY we have to have emissions done. I get a check engine light after the emissions test, it goes away after a couple days. Something about a G-force sensor going crazy, 60 MPH and 0 G's ?

I had my car dynoed a while ago and never got a check engine light afterwords. However my buddy did get one after his dyno. Im not sure what causes it though. Take Care

No check engine light either. Maybe your dyno place ran the car up to redline? My dyno cut off after 6200.

Don't be angry at your sister

Check the fuel filler cap. Driving with the cap loose or missing makes the Engine Control Module (the computer) think there is a fuel leak and that will turn on the Check Engine Light.

Don't be angry at your sister. This could be something which is not her fault.

Actually it is still on warranty. A cylinder misfire is an engine problem. Engine is covered under 5year/60k powertrain warranty.

Well, it may not be his sister's fault, but there were a few mistakes made here
- he let his sister drive his car
- he let his sister drive his 5-speed
- he let his sister drive his 5-speed car with ample torque

hehe, just ribbing, but seriously...there is a strict "no women allowed" policy for my drivers seat. Ever since I had a gf that drove a stick, and also since I saw my mom drive my bro's accord stick....they would both like, engage the clutch (and hold in all the way to the stop) a mile away before a stop sign/red light/etc. Not to mention a few other habits.

Lol, I know a few girls around here that are better than most guys driving a 5 speed. But on the other hand, i know some that flat out suck!! My buddy got suckered into letting his Girl friend drive his Maxima, and when she pulled up from wherever she was we were outside and we could smell the burnt clutch, he was p!ssed to say the least. Take Care

The DYNO and NJ inspections will set the check engine light and the ABS as well. This happens because the computer sees the front tires spin and not the rear. I think this only happens with vehicles equipped with ABS brakes. My ABS light and Airbag (if i remember correctly) both blinked for a few miles after I went through the "new" NJ inspection (emmissions test).
Hope this helps.
