Maxima wast first choice vehicle?
I was wondering how many people didn't have a MAX as their first choice when shopping for a car. I have to admit that I really wanted a 99 Mustang
But I bought my MAX since everyone I know is hate American cars, and think Mustangs are crap.
Nevertheless, now I think buying my 96 GXE 5speed at that time was the right choice

My Max was on the lot of a Honda dealer. When I totaled my accord I brought it to the auto body shop of Paramus Honda and on the used car lot was the maxima. Never even thought about them until I first looked at it. Thank God I totaled the accord!
I was looking in the total opposite direction, a sports car. 300zx or a 98 240sx was what i was looking for. This maxima just happened to be beside an Auto 240sx at a dealership so I test drove it. Bought it 2 days later with no regrets so far! Im glad that 240sx was an auto or I never would have looked at this car...
I have to admit...
... my heart truly belongs to German cars. So theoretically, given no money constraints, I would have gone Audi, BMW, M.B. (I know, I know, we all would probably own something different if we had more money so I didn't really answer the question). But in real life, given the $13,000 I had to spend in 2000 I KNEW exactly what I wanted. There were no other cars on my shopping list. I am so picky. I had to have pearl white, black leather, (something about that combo that just makes my heart smile every time I think about it - lol) electronic climate control, power seats, sunroof, etc. So, the Accord (V6) would have been on my list (I did like the fact that there are countless aftermarket parts for it) and possibly the Camry (nice but a little boring and of course not much aftermarket support)but they didn't fit my criteria. So, the Max it was. Enjoy driving her every day.
I was in love with the Impreza RS...
Until I drove my Max!!! Summer '99 I test drove and even put down a deposit on a '99 Impreza RS 2.5. Then the next day, happened by a Nissan dealer and asked if they still had any '99 models, they had one auto, one 5sp. The following day I drove the 5sp, then returned to the Subaru dealer to get my deposit back. I couldn't handle the fact that the preza, even though 4WD, felt so underpowered (165HP) compared to the Max, yet cost almost the same after Nissan's factory incentives to clear out the '99s (to make way for the new '00s)...
Now, if the WRX were available two years ago, I would definitely, without a doubt, no question, *NEVER* have seen this board, and I would be driving a 4WD turbo. Too bad for Subaru.

Had no choice, but didnt want anything else...
I had a 1985 Maxima SE 5 speed, Loved it to death. My dad bought a new car and asked me if I wanted his 95 GXE auto and I said yes. When we were looking for my first car I wanted a 2nd gen maxima - we found one. I dont like the looks of the 4th gen as well, but a body kit will fix that next summer. When someone offers you a new(er) car than you have for free, dont turn them down

I wanted a 97 SE 5spd since I turned 16. It took me through two cars to finally get one. When I got my GSR I almost could afford one, but couldn't quite. When it got stolen I had enough to get one, so now I have a 97 SE 5spd.
maxima
I wanted a 2 door manual... but of course since i was so young and my parents were chipping in, I basically had to follow their guidelines.. less than 30grand, auto and 4 door... of course the best thing that has all that is the Max.. and here I am with it.. very happy.. just wishing it was a 5spd...
My only decision was what year Max to get. I wanted a '95-'96 5-Speed but couldn't find any. The '97s at the time were coming off lease so there were alot of them, but they were expensive. I got the '98 for less than what all the dealerships were asking for the '97s. Oh, and I absolutely love it!

I drove a friends 98 I30 up to VT one weekend, loved the engine and trans but the suspension was soft. I went looking at Infinity, Nissan was right next door, Stepped into the showroom and my 99 SE Limited was sitting there waiting for me. What can I say - Love at first sight.
Proud to say, 1st choice !
I have had an Sentra, 2 Altima's and the natural progression is the Max. Loved the body on the 4th gen, read tons on the VQ. Almost didn't test drive the car, but I am glad I did. I first test drove an auto, and hated it. Almost didn't buy the car because of it. Then the dealer called back and said he had a 5 speed, so I took it out, bought the one I test drove!

I had 86 Sentra bought used, 94 Altima bought new. Said to my wife in 96 that we had to try Camry. Test-drove 96 V6 LE and settled the price and waiting for 0% finance starting a week after. Last minute test-drive on Max GXE turned my wife and me to say bye-bye Camry. Beside the obvious better performance of Max, I compared each little features and found Max has many more for a little higher price. Never regret having it for 6 years, not even a single failure so far or a loose srew, etc.
Not only was it my 1st choice...
but it was the only choice I had. Back in 97, the Maxima was THE ONLY 4-door sedan that came with a V6 and a manual transmission (that was not American, not over $25k, and that had the room inside that I needed)
To tell the truth, I had no intention or was even looking at Nissan's when I was looking at cars. I was actually looking at some "pre-owned" Saabs, but that was a bust. The dealer, who is one of the most honest car salesmen that I ever knew, I might add, left me alone for about 10 minutes in the office and I was like "What the hell is he doing". He was doing something to this Black car in the lot (it was dark and I could not tell what it was) came back in and said "go drive that" and I said "What is it" and he told me it was a Nissan Maxima. I took it out and lets just say I was amazed and fell in love with it instantly and basically picked it up the next day (after doing a Car Fax report of course!)!

first choice...
I drove a '90 Max all through high school and college but when the driver's side door froze shut and the lowest price quoted to get it fixed was in the thousands (had to butcher the door molding, take the door off, fix it, and then add new door molding) I figured I'd get a newer one. My mom owns a 96 SE and I'd always loved driving it (5spd) and there was one sitting right next to the shop entrance...test drove it one night, bought it the next...never a doubt...

p.s. Notice how many people have, or still do, own multiple Maximas...it's a great brand loyalty

The Maxi was my first choice on the list. This is my 3rd car and 2nd one that I've had to pay for completely.
I wanted something around $11k that was fun to drive, and had more low-end/torque than my 91 integra LS. Basically anything else was a plus - leather, all the options on my SE, etc. The other cars I was looking at were 94-95 6-speed Legends and 95-96 Prelude Sis. Only looked for 95-96 5-speed SE maxis (didn't want to make the suspension enhancements myself...)
Whatever I was getting had to be a manual, I know that much. And I don't really race around/drive hard much either

this is weird
not only was i never looking for a max but i was looking for a 4*4. jeep grand cherokee to be exact. i thought it would help beca i go to school in ma....i didnt even have enough money for one, lol..anyway, went to a toyota dealer, drove the car thinking wtf...im never gona get to buy it anyway and then mad things feel into place.......then through my friend i found this phat a&s site. later.
First choice
My first car was a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham. It was a great car huge, faster than anyone ever expected ( ask the camaros and mustang friends I had that tried) and fun. I leanred how to do smokeshows, donuts, J stands and reverse hollywoods in it. I had some of the best times of my life in that car and even when it was broken down I never had a bad word to say about it. Unfortuanantyl the car that gave me all those good times had to come to an end and be put to rest. Fianly it was old to someone who actually wanted to resurect it with paint rims and some engine work. He was the one I sold it to because I turned down about 10 - 15 other people from buying it.
My second car was an Intrepid and I dont really have anything fun about it really. Not what I thought it was there was just no excitement in it for me. Maybe it had too much to live up to from the Delta days. My mother has a 1998 Infinity I30 and I loved takign that out. The speed the fun the control of it was all great and I knwe from then I wanted my next car to be a Maxima because I thought they seemed sportier and knew I could get it in a 5 speed. So now after putting 130K on the Intrepid it was time for a newer car. And so the Max is now mine and looking forward to some more great times.

First choice: 1999/2000 Mustang GT
second choice: 1994/95/96 Impala SS
Third Choice - VW Jetta VR6
Fourth choice: Maxima/Accord
Mustang was too expensive for how impractical it was, Impala SS was too expensive for cars with 60K+ miles (they don't depreciate!) and too hard to find a solid one, the Jetta VR6 was too small (see Mustang) and the Maxima was a good car at a good price, could fit a car seat and had a good-sized trunk.
