I can now join your group, but I have a few questions about the CAI. I just spent the better part of 2 hours putting this sucker in and upsetting my neighbors (drilling at 1:30AM doesn't make too many people happy!). So I fire it up and check engine light!! It sounds good, but there is a lovely little high pitched whistle at idle, but this doesn't happen all the time. Okay, so I'm cruising around, checking out the sound and there are some definite sounds that I need your opinions on. Whne I first step on the throttle, basically very little pressure applied there is a screeching sound as more throttle is applied the screech disappears and there is a definite whistle, but a different frequency than when it is just at idle. Of course when I get on it, the sound is in a word AMAZING!!! The sounds return as I let off the throttle as well, so they are pretty consistent. I'm going to check to make sure that all the clamps are tight and I forgot to silicone the one sensor that attached straight to the tube, so that might help me. Did anyone else have these kinds of sounds directly after installing their CAI?? How did you alleviate them?? Clamps? Silicone? Sorry about the length here, but I just want to know what's going on, or if this is normal. Thank you all again!!

I heard to get rid of a "false" check engine light you can leave the battery disconnected overnight or for a few hours...Just loosen the neg. terminal and leave it off.

although, I don't know if the ECU still stores the "problem area" of the check engine light. if it does, Nissan may void your warranty, who knows?

Thank you for your input melanthius, but my question did not revolve around a check engine light. It is stated quite clearly that I have not got a check engine code. My question revolves around the noises coming from the CAI. A definite screeching noise when a little pressure is applied to the throttle and then as more pressure is added the screech stops and a definite whistle can be heard. Of course when you stomp on it there is the lovely growl, but before then only the screeching and whistling and then they come back when you back off the throttle as well. Has anyone experienced these noises?? I siliconed the tempurature sensor plug, so that should get rid of that leak if there was one present there. What about in between the MAF and the tube, the MAF is plastic and the adapter is metal, should there be some kind of a gasket there?? Perhaps that is where the noise is coming from. Anyone with any help!!??? Thanks!!

My stillen made the same sound and i couldn't stand it so i took it off. Because our intakes are the same only up to the MAF adaptor I have concluded that it is the source of our screeching sound. Since the stillen kit is only two parts, i could'nt really determine if the sound was from the daptor or the filter. Mine sounded almost like a brake pad wear sensor sound, just not as loud. If you ever get your's fixed, please let me know how you did it.

I don't know about your maxima...but can I talk about 2 other cars?
My 85 Volvo 740 GLE sedan 4cyl non-turbo auto stock (sorry for long description). It also whistles at a certain point when depressing the gas. Happens in any gear.
My friend's 93 Altima GXE 5sp w/cai also whistles at a certain pedal position...like it's sucking in air. Cai in Wai setup, it did the same thing @ same position. And even way before I installed any intake, I took out the bottom side of the air box (where paper filter sits on) and duct taped the filter it to the upper section...it whistled then too at that pedal position (want a mean growl better than cai or wait? Do this ghetto mod!)

Anyways...I'm just thinking it's ok cuz it happens on my 2 cars.

Still waiting on a 5th gen w/cai to respond....

cobymody: I'll let you know if I can resolve the sound. I'm thinking about putting a gasket in between the MAF and the adapter. This should take care of the screech.

ThruzNite: I have noticed that noise as well and I think the whistling sound could be the air causing a resonance in the tubes. Since there are 2 different tubes, then there would be at least 2 different resonant tones. I'm not real sure if this is the case, but it makes sense to me.

Ok, 5th gen guys with the CAI where the heck are you!!! I know I'm not the only one with the CAI installed. Tell me if you have had any of these problems. Or just speculate. I need some help here!!! Thank you!!

Does it really sound like a whistle? Or does it sound more like air being sucked in?

From what I can hear it sounds like a whistle, but it is entirely possible that it is air being sucked in that is causing the whistle. I've never really got a chance to listen from outside the car, except for sticking my head out and trying to listen. I'll give it a try tonight and see if I can localize the whistling sound. Although I'm not very worried about the whistle aspect, just the screeching. It is quite annoying. I'm going to stop by Autozone on my way home today and buy a gasket sheet and make one. I'll let you all know if it works! Thanks!!
