After finally being payed off for my totaled 01SE, I picked up my gold 02 SE today. Only options I got were the Sunroof, and Bose. It is Tan with light tan cloth interior, I will post some pix when I get my digital camera back. I must say she has way more ***** than my 01 had and has a whole more torque down low. The thing has power throughout the whole torque curve. I didnt get traction control and when you floor it from a stop it pulls so hard it feels like the wheels want to go their seperate ways. I will baby it from now on until it is broken in. Yes the transmission is way smoother than the 00 and 01's, those of you waiting for the 6spd it should be very fast judging by my auto.

Don't be Afraid…go on, be gentle, but…

Start driving it the way you will in about 10,000 miles. This is what the head mechanic says @ Troncalli Nissan here in Atlanta. Just don't repeatedly go over 120MPH til you fill your break in period has passed. So go ahead Drive agressively, but smart.
By the way!! Your one of the first Maaannnnn! See ya around 85 to 90 MPH!! Congrats!!

P.S. This is Advice from a Nissan Mechanic. They make money from our repairs and Mishaps.
My advice is just to Cruise Comfortably in your New Ride the way you WANNA!!

Glad to hear your experience with the engine/transmission matches my recent 02 test drive. I've been test driving 01's and got the chance to drive a 02. Much more power down low - exactly what is was missing (for the auto). The trans shifts quick and smooth. Just a quick 'flick' on the throttle for a down shift and a lttle more to drop lower if really nailing it.

If you don't mind, how much over invoice did you pay ?

I wasn't too impressed with the GXE velour seats. Did the Se's have a nicer velour material ?

Thanks and Congrats !

Drove my new 2002 SE home on Monday

This is my first Maxima. I've got friends and business associates that have owned Maximas with only good things to say. I actually bought this new SE for my wife, she will be the primary driver. This is her first sedan in 8 years...had a Jeep Cherokee and most recently a Land Rover Discovery. We absolutely love the new 2002 Maxima. We spent all weekend looking at cars...test drove a 2000 Jaguar XJ8, several BMW 5 and 7 Series, and the MB E320, money was no real object, but we wanted a lot of car for the money spent. After test driving the 2002 Maxima SE there was no going back. The car is super tight, handles great, fast, fast, fast!!! The 3.5L engine is very quiet, the sound system is crystal clear. We got leather, and all the other goodies. Paid $29800 + T.T.T. All this for $20K-$30K less than the other cars we were considering...plus we can get the oil changed at "Jiffy Lube" for $19 bucks.

Gotta love it.

Price Paid

I paid $30,000 even, and got a fair market trade on my 1999 Land Rover Discovery of $22,000. The dealer sticker on the Maxima was $30,899 which included a $900 dealer paint protection...something...something...garbage...bas iscally a wax job. So to be fair I think I paid right at sticker.

I was okay with the trade-in value...with 46K miles on the Rover I probably couldn't have got much more...esp with Land Rover offering 3.9% on new ones.

My Dad is so impressed witht the 2002 Maxima that he wants one now. I think we are going to try to shop the net and do an on-line purchase to get a better price.

I'll keep everyone posted.
