I've become sick of the clicking that comes from the vent area when encountering bumps. I have not yet investigated the problem fully, however the org. can be a good place for a quick fix!! So, if you have experienced this let me know. Thanks!

thats exactly what Im trying to fix. I hear this ticking little sound when going through small bumps. I always thought it came from the rearview or ac vents.

I am trying to eliminate the same ticking sound little by little. I put some duct tape between where the A pillar and dash board joins, no rubbing noise from there now. Some random ticking sound is around the area. I tried poping the vents towards the front window glass (not the ones for driver and front passenger), but seems hard to get them out. So I just squeeze some sponge in the gap when I lifted them up. Seems no help. Guess the ticking sound is from somewhere more inside. One time when this ticking sound appeared, I pressed down the dash board where it is very close to A pillar and the windshield, the sound disappeared.
Still trying.

Well, I still haven't had the chance to diagnose the problem yet. If I come up with a fix I'll let you know! My opinion of the problem is (hopefully) simply the cover and hope to remove, back coat with something to make it so it's not plastic against plastic.

I fixed this problem on my 97 GXE. You pop the top defroster vents out with a screwdriver and line the edges with soft felt tape which can be bought from the dealer for about $15 for 10 feet. I've eliminated so many rattles it's not even funny. I have 3 rolls of felt tape in my car. I got it down to only 3 rattles now.

Good luck

Oh please don't tell me that I'm going to have more noises soon, my 99 has only experienced this vent obstacle! I can't stand noises that aren't supposed to be there. So that's it huh? Just pop em' off and line! Excellent, sounds fair. Thanks for your post!

taking off the front vents are easy.. use a flathead screwdriver and pry em off.. just clips.. and as for the a-pillers, it sounds ghetto but put pillow stuffing in there.. no rattle at all.. my next thing is that my 2 12inch subs have produced a rattle in the third brake light on the rear deck.. this ought to be fun to find..!!
