Hang in there pretty good he had me about 1 car lenght up to 100mph. I was pretty suprised I know he was at the next light he decided to run it instead of going head to head. Plus I had my wife with me she called him a scared punk!!!
If she ever new at a stand still he probably would have ate my *** up.

 

Expect to get flames on this, I did. I ran one a long time ago on the highway from 45-120 and he only got 1 car on me. This was in my 98 SE 5spd with CAI and EXHAUST. No one believed me, but it did happen.

I give you props for just hanging with him. 18inch rims and all that sterio equ. I have raced a couple M3s in were I live in Orlando. Never can seem to race from a dead stop, they always want to race when we are already at the speed limit. I helled my own against two of them but this one time I was running along side of an M3 with a wide body kit wide-*** tires and a pretty loud exhuast. I thought to myself that I realy want to make an impresion on this guy so I flipped my NOS switch on (it was Sat. night so the NOS is on) He knew I wanted some bad. So we both slowed down to about 35mph as if we both new what was up. I nailed it first, having the auto the car had to downshift than I hit the NOS and pulled a bumper langth ahead. And this M F was pulling on me. And pulling and pulling. We stayed on it for a good 10sec. The speedo read 110mph. And in that time he puled about a car langth in front of me. NOW, I can run low 14s with the NOS but this damb car from Germany srait put a wippin on me!! We slowed down to a reasonable speed and instead of seeing the flashers from the BMW as I expected, he puts the window down and gives me the thums up. Well at this point I just about had a hard on, and was not even mad about getting flat out beet my a BMW M3..

 

m3 vs maxima? whoa.

i would think *imho* that the m3 would gain pretty good distances on a 5 spd maxima.. but really, its the driver..

SCed maxima would i think be even or better than m3s right?

well. from personal experiences, i dont like to play with m3s... unless i'm aleady up at high way speeds.. off the line, those things are mad quick..

 

I raced a silver M3 with a exhaust in KC a month or so ago. We chatted at the light and then he insisted on running. I actually had a really good start and we stayed pretty close up to 70mph or so then he started pulling away from me. We ran from a 50 mph roll and he got me by 1 car by 100mph. He said he's ran 14.5s@96mph at KCIR. Judging by my ets and trap speeds I believed him. All he could say was, "that's a Maixma?!?!?!? Are they all that quick?".

There are several kinds of M3.
First there are auto and stick, auto runs high 14's, which is beatable. Stick there are two kinds, the normal coupe and the light weight version. Coupe runs ~14.2 and light weight runs 14 flat, which are tough to beat I will say. But of course, it still depends on what kinda people are behind the wheel, anything can happen, a stock auto maxima can beat a F355 if the driver sucks.

 

a older (but the newer shape) 325 tired to take a run at me and i managed to pull a bit on him..it was a run going about 45-100..i know i know...shouldn't be racing..but it was for like 5 seconds or so. not bad for a old *** car like mine.

They get great launches due to RWD. That's the main reason why they can get low 14's in the 1/4 and high 5's 0-60.

I raced one off and on one day on the drive to work...all pretty much 20-70 mph runs. I believe it was an older 97- one...the one with the 3.0...I'm guessing...didn't look to see if it was the sedan or coupe. I tagged behind him the whole way. He never gained any more than 1 car length, if that. He was running hard, too, as I could see black smoke out the TP every time he floored it/shifted. It appeared to be a 5spd. Of course, I don't know for a fact if he was at full throttle, but judging by the way he was driving, I'd guess he was. Had we ran from a dead stop, I have no doubt I woulda fallen behind right off the bat, but from a roll on, it was close. I felt pretty satisfied that my car was at least competitive with it.

I have a stock GS400 and a MZ3, if you are in NY and you think you can take me at a light or a rolling start, let's do it, not just talk about it
You know, just come out here and we get some local members out here too, we race then we come back report here on BBS, at least from that point on we will have reference when we hear more roadkills I mean if I can put 3 car lenths on auto Max with all bolt-ons, next time you know what to think if someone says he roadkills a GS400 with intake only

 

Go take a VIAGRA or something. If your gonna start flaming the MAXIMAS I suggest go to another board, because we don't need that here. This is a MAXIMA board, and others have been close or even beaten M3s. M3s have a good advantage off the line because its RWD, but I can bet money that a 2k 5spd would be with or take a M3 on the highway, stock for stock. Anyways, its hard to say, give him the benefit and good kill. Personally since you no longer own a MAXIMA and haven't for what 1-2 yrs now? Why are you still here causing and argueing **** all the time? EH? At least I don't cause **** anymore like I use to 4-6 months ago. And no I don't own a MAXIMA but that was by choice...do I want to have one, yeah still do, but the time is not right right now.

what you're saying is basically if u have the money for a GS400 or a MZ3 you would STILL get a Maxima? Woodear moved on and got something BETTER than the Maxima..yes the GS400 and the BMW MZ3 IS better than the Maxima...due to popular belief.
Russ..it's not a board for JUST Maximas and their owners..it's a public BBS..you're welcome here and so is woodear and everyone else. So if someone who is not a Maxima owner but is thinking about getting one is not allowed on here? so someone thinks that the maxima is not as fast as the M3 then so be it...the numbers on paper shows that the M3 is faster than the Max stock for stock. i mean i have a 3rd gen and i can say i toasted a lot of 4th gens and etc..are you going to tell me that it's not true either?
Woodear is willing to run w/ another Max and see how it stacks up...he's not flaming us..he wants to set it straight.

I know for a fact that my maxima would loose and pretty badly. I was impress with the way your car launched off the line. But remember
your car is not a M3 its lighter plus the one I ran didn't look like the newer M3. These so call times That the magazines post for the m3 seems very good but anytime I go to the track I never seen one hit that 14.0 mark the magazine stated. They mostly run mid to high 14s. Honestly I never been pretty impress with M3s here in Bklyn at the illegals they barely win. Everybody wants to run them just to get bragging rights that they can kick a m3 ***.

 

Yeah, but they kick some booty at the autox. There's a guy with an 89 that comes out to our events, not a lot done to the car, but he always wins our STS class. Of course he's also a driving instructor... Every little bit helps But those cars handle great, and have a nice VLSD stock.

Don't get me wrong Jose, I honestly wasn't directing anything at you. We have met several times, you know I am straight shooter just like you are, if I were to direct anything at you I will call your name(see what I said to Russ?? muhaha).

It's just recent in general there are lots of talk about how a Max can take this and that, I thougt maybe instead of reading things on internet let's just hit the street/track and see it for ourselves, maybe some people will go back to reality after that, that's why I proposed so.

 

Yeah $800 in mods, intake and software. But guess what? I don't feel **** about it being faster.
In that sense, some BMW owners are just like the people here, they always say the car feels so fast now after the intake/software, I did it and I barely feel jack.
Just like the only mod on Max I felt the difference was the Y-pipe, but everyone says intake makes Max a monster or STB makes max handle like a 911

What's the truth anyway? If someone says it feels faster, then it feels faster. Doesn't mean it <b>is</b> faster, but it feels faster. My FSTB definately felt better to me, less understeer and not as floaty. The CAI, I dunno, I think it adds a little more pull at higher rpm's. Let's face it, we are not analytical data gathering machines. Everything we process is filtered through our minds which alter our perception of reality. Maybe you're bitter and don't want to think there is a difference, maybe others are eager and want to believe there is. Either way, everyone feels what they feel, and no one has the absolute correct view of reality. Like I tell people about audio equipment, if you buy $400 worth of cable and think it sounds better, who the hell cares if it really does or not? If you think it does and it increases your enjoyment, hey, money well spent! Hell, the very concept of a stereo sound is total BS and our minds make it all up, what's wrong with our minds making up the fact that our car feels a little faster?

A AWD GSX will take a VIPER off the line for maybe 1-2 sec if lanched right, the VIPER will sit there and spin.

Actually last night my friend in his 99 Z28 beat a VIPER GTS, with 50-60 SHOT of NOS! By 1 car length 3 times! 1 off the line and 2 rolling, was a sight to see! Anyways, get back to the point, RWD vs FWD is a huge difference in take off and times. You put a RWD on the MAX, guess what, you just cut the MAXIMAS time drastically lower!

 

You're telling me that a z28 beat a viper 3 times? Let's talk here, first off who had the nos... i sure hope it was the camaro lol. Also I hope the camaro had other mods because there's no way a 305 hp z28 (okay 360 after the NOS) beat a viper... let's see 8 liter 450 hp v10 with 490 lb/ft of torque.

Remember one of the BBS old timer Robert H.? Who eventually moved onto bigger better toys and is sporting a twin turbo NSX now?
He told a racing story before that he ran a M3 from a rolling start all the way to 140mph, they were side by side, Robert had SC and almost all the bolt-ons on his 5sp. Now, using Russ's theory, from a rolling start a stock 5th gen should keep up or even beat Robert H's SC max? Yeah ****ing right.
Further more, back last summer there were lots of talks on Chad's BBS regarding modded Maxima vs. stock M3. My co-worker who has a stock '98 coupe was reading BBS with me at work, he was laughing his *** off and told me he would race us. I posted on the BBS that a M3 is willing to race any NA modded Maxima on street or track from dead stop or rolling, it got many replies, but guess what? Not a single Max took the challenge, nada, zero, no one. What's up with that??

Afterall I wasn't flaming, if I were flaming ya'll will be able to tell I am flaming, for example how I replied to Russ and basicly called me a stupid ****, now THAT is flaming.

 

Jose mentioned illegals in brooklyn. Where and when are they held? Also, Woodear I know you live in Queens. I go to St Johns but live on the island. Anyway, I'd love to attend any street races or ****, know of any place cars go? It just sucks having to goto Etown to see some races.

Actually I don't really street race and I don't know where they hold it. People used to do that on Fransic Lewis Blvd, but years ago cops busted everyone and took away some cars, so it's dead now.
I only mention the challenge cuz I wish to see with my own eyes that modded Max blow passing my GS4 or MZ3. We prolly can do that right around the corner where I live, Utopia parkway.
