I tried installing my chrome gauge rings ... the large ones seem to fit ok .. but the small ones won't fit into the dish of the gauge panel ... has anyone else experienced this issue?

I've scratched the black of the panel trying 2 fit them .. but to no avail.

Does n e 1 remember what # they had on the back of their waxed paper? Mine says 102 ... were yours also 102?

HELP ... this is frustrating ...

Yes they don't exactly fit down in the small gauges (fuel and temp). There are two things you can do ... mdeal took his trusty dremel and took off part of the guage cluster trim to accomodate the chrome ring. To the best of my knowledge he is the only person to do this. The rest of us, just made sure that the adhesive was pressed down to the bottom of the ring and then sat on top of the plastic guage cluster. It seems that they won't stay, but as long as you get the majority of the adhesive to sit on the plastic they won't fall. Mine have been on for 4 months now with no problems. As for the scratches, I am still going to paint that plastic my body color, but as of yet I can't find the time. mdeal suggested taking some flat black model paint to cover up those scratches.

But for now those are your only choices. Don't expect to find smaller rings b/c they are nowhere to be found. I have looked everywhere and honestly you just have to live with them.

Hope this helps some...

check out my cardomain website to see the pics of them installed or look at psing's how to section. Both of them you will notice the small rings being elevated.

I believe everyone has or is experiencing what you have explained. What some of us have done is use a dremel to drill into the plastic casing to make more room for the gauge rings to fit flush. I recently resorted to this because the rings were very crooked. And now they're falling off because the silicone is not very good at being reused. I guess I have to epoxy them on or something.

I just stuck them in as far as they would go, and made sure the adhesive made good contact... no problems yet..

Rings.....Rings

If you use the search function on this site, you will see that I was one of the 1st to do this and warned everyone that it does not fit. I basically got taken by one of our local members as they are clearly 52mm?? and should have been 50mm??. They still stick out to me, everytime I look at the small ones! Good thing is it has been 92+ degrees daily and not one has popped off yet. I believe that the gauge cluster for 2002 is different, with rings on large guages, and can fit. Maybe DaveB will shed some light on this one???

i made them fit ... just get some extra black silicone & double up on what's already there ... all that xtra silicone will let it float on the board ... but I dunno how it'll hold ... if you've had 92+ weather & no problems ... I hope I'm okay .. I wonder how they'll hold out in our winters? ****!

Yes, I took a Dremel tool with a sandpaper attachment and made the smaller holes on the outside a little more open. The rings seat very nicely that way. I am not sure I wanted to drive around with rings half inserted.

Super-secret:
To cover up any nicks on the black part of the gauge ring hosing, use Testor's model paint in flat black, found at most any Wal-Mart, craft store, etc. Brush on very lightly on the scratch. It is almost a perfect match, and when you remount everything it is more "shady" in there and you won't notice a thing was painted.

Hey ohboiya, where do you get extra black silicone for these rings? I need some, they're about to fall off for the 2nd time.

Well .. I cheated .. I don't know where 2 get either .. prob home depot .. what I did was strip the black silicone off completely ... & reapplied it onto the edge of the ring instead of in the groove .. where it's essentially useless ...

hrm.. i just got me two sets.. i hope it'll work fine.. i will not disclose the price i got it for because i don't want to intervein with a fellow member of the .org's buisness. i wouldn't mind being an authorized importer of this product, but it's not on my priority list.. i can't complain if it doesnt fit for the price i got them for.. looking at the silicone, i suggest members should use something more permanent, such as expoxy or some other type of adhesive.

Alright guys, I just received my chrome guage rings from Paradox Systems ($35.00) and one of the small rings did not fit. All of the other rings fit fine. The Speedo and tach @ 102mm and one of the smaller, either fuel or temp guage @48 fit fine. One of the 48mm rings, however was too large. The two small rings were different sizes and the holes that they were to fill are the same size.

I emailed Paradox, as it is the only way to get in touch with them, I will keep everyone posted as to what they are going to do. Meanwhile I dont want to reassemble my dash until I either get the other ring in or totally remove them and return them for a refund. I am still questioning the quality of the rings.

chrome guage rings

It isn't an issue of both small rings not fitting. Only one of the small rings did not fit. This means that they know the correct size and must have a quality control issue. I want another small ring that will fit. I really dont want to dremel the bezel hole to fit the ring. Looks as if I am going to wait for a reply from Paradox.

Hopefully you are not talking about the rings from Paradox Systems?

Yes, Paradox! I am sure that they will supply me with another ring. I just wish they had a published phone number.

Paradox

I hope its not the Paradox one's either, i just ordered them and well I don't want to go through taking apart my steering wheel and gauge cluster and have them not fit. I know he posted that he just got a new arrival of gauges, hopefully they will fit like a glove. If not, guess I will keep on returning them till they all fit correctly. I also wonder if it's just one ring that doesn't fit you can return that one for one that does or will they say they only come in sets and have to return the whole thing?

You probably just got sent the wrong ones. There's quite a few 5th gens that have them installed with no problems...

Some things need to be cleared up.

Of all the posts here that I have seen, not all of them are speaking of the same thing.

It seems like some of the rings are coming from other sources.
Specifically, it seems like people are speaking of 4th gen Maxima rings on a 5th gen. THAT is where sanding is needed.

The rings that I came out with recently are specifically 5th gen.

Edward Lee's problem seems to be related to a mislabeled ring from my manufacturer but I need to verify.

IF you have the 4th gen rings and sanded it down to fit, You can not buy these rings now and expect them to fit because it was measured for a stock 5th gen bezel. You should only have to press them into place.

Who here has bought 5th gen rings from me within the past 3 weeks and has a problem besides EdwardLee?

Paradox is sending me another small ring. Great customer service! All of the other one's fit like a glove and look fantastic. I mailed the slightly larger fuel ring back and should be getting the corrcect size sometime this week. The only problem I have now is keeping my eyes on the road instead of the instrument cluster.

First Of All:

1) This thread is 2 YEARS OLD.

2) The rings that do not fit in the 5th gens are 4TH GEN RINGS and require modification.

3) If you order 5th gen rings (00-01. 02-03) from Paradox (MaxMoJo), they will fit.
