Coil overs...

Can someone fill me in on what exactly coilovers are? I understand the best thing is the adjustable height....

I have some questions:

What is the range for the height adjustment? how low or high can you go?

Is it necessary or reccomended to upgrade other parts along with the coilovers, such as springs or struts?

How easy is it to adjust them? Any tools needed?

Can you adjust the softness/stiffness of the ride? (heard they are generally stiff)

What spring/shock setup would the coilovers best be compared to in terms of ride comfort?

thanks a lot.

Here's how the GC coilovers install. Pull the front strut housing and dismantel. Then you cut off the spring perch. Then you add the threaded sleeve that goes around the strut housing and it rests on the steering knuckle bolt support on the strut. You install the threaded perches and coils and then reinstall the housing. The rears work the same way, but you don't have to cut the perch. You adjust the height by turning the spring perch that is threaded onto the strut housing. You can go from a 0-3" drop. Tools are provided. These are great for show cars BUT:

Downsides to the GCs:
-More creaks and rattles in the suspension and interior
-very stiff ride
-virtually no wheel travel when at full drop (1"-1.5" travel)
-must run decent struts and you will go thru them pretty quickly
