My 2K SE only has 21K miles, and last night I came to a stop pretty quick and my brakes are making a bad squeek when pressed hard, not just brake dust kind of squeek. I guess my brake pads are on their way out? Isnt it kind of soon?

Well if you consider the brake TSB you should never have to buy new pads! You get new pads every 12-20K when your rotors warp!

You're going to go to the dealer and ask them about the TSB.. they will then tell you that you abuse your brakes are warped due to your abuse.. you will then get ****y .. leave and then start searching for aftermarket replacements.

Oh wait.. I keep forgetting that the entire world possibly is not as bitter as I am.

Does anyone have a copy of the brake TSB? Or can someone point me to one? Thanks!

New brakes

My dealership told me that the 2000 Max goes through brake pads approximately every 23,000-25,000 miles. I found this to be accurate, since I needed them around that time. I also got the Brake Judder TSB done at that time, so I didn't have to pay for front brakes. The rear brakes are not covered by the TSB, since they don't contribute to the problem. They also told my that the rear brakes tend to wear a bit faster than the fronts. Peace.

brakes

With 4 wheel disc I would have expected them to last longer that 25K.

My 95 Max didn't need brakes until 50K!

Now I have the 2000 I30 (14K miles) and had hope for the same, but on a recent interstate trip I noticed some steering wheel shake during "panic" stops at 70mph. I suspect this is the warped rotor problem. At normal speeds the brakes seem fine.

Question: when should I try to get the rotors cut under the TSB? Would it be best to do it now, or wait until I have more miles on the brakes or until I notice the "judder" at normal speeds?

Thanks

Does the I30 have a TSB? Don't know.

Does the Max TSB cover the I30? Don't know again- assuming it does, it is covered only while under the 3/36000 bumper-bumper warranty. Don't wait beyond that, for sure. The service tech has to agree there is judder after a test drive, so if it's not fairly obvious....

Re: Re: brakes

By the time my 2000 SE had 24K miles, my front rotors were pretty badly warped. I took it into the dealer to get the resurfaced and made a weak attempt at trying to get them to resurface/replace them under warranty. They didn't go for it, but I told them to go ahead and resurface the rotors and put on the softest pads they had.

When I picked up my car and got the invoice, they hadn't replaced the pads and actually indicated that my original pads were less than 50% worn. At this point I was (quite) a bit more insistent about them covering the repairs under warranty. After about 15 minutes of discussion with the shop manager, he agreed and I was out of there with no bill.
