Since I broke my clutch last time at the drags, I naturally need a new one. I've been doing some crazy launches (5000 RPM launches) but I usually slip the clutch less then 1 second. So when I get the new clutch, I'm hoping it will be able to tolerate my style of launch. I'm considering the ACT MM clutch, since I've heard bad things about the centerforce and clutch masters clutches. I will be honest, I do drive my car hard. I do burnouts and hard launches. There may be a possibility of NOS or a blower in the future so I want to be prepared. What is the life expectancy of an ACT clutch?

I am also considering the LSD (I hate one wheeled burnouts, but most importantly, it would give me better launches) as I'll have the transmission out anyway. In addition, poly motor mounts should stop wheel hop. Hmm, lightened flywheel too? Possibilities.........

Eric -

An ACT clutch WILL hold up much better to hard launchs than the stock clutch....BUT....your 5000 rpm launchs aren't good for even a heavy duty clutch, let alone your tranny. There really isn't any reason at all to lauch a max at 5000 rpms....we have PLENTY of power in the vq engine for a good launch as low a 2000rpms. The 5K lauch is definitely overkill....now if this was an AWD turbo car it would be advantagous, but not in a torqy front drive. I've found the best way to lauch a the track is between 2500-3000 rpms slipping the clutch and feeling for traction.

Very well put, Briguy.

The ACT clutch holds lot's of power with ease, it held down every ounce of power from my SC I30. I can not comment on how long the clutch will last because I only used it for a month and then sold it. BTW I can't amigine why you whould want to launch your max at 5K RPM's. When I am really feeling crazy I will rev to about 3K on a very hard launch.
