Anyone know what I can do?

Ok i have a 98 I30 and it comes with woodgrain interior. only bad thing about that is that I want to change it to a brushed aluminum interior and I could just buy a dash kit but it wont look good sitting over the factory wood kit. is there a wai for me to get around this or am I going to have to deal with the wood?

my guess is the wood trim is attached with double sided tape or just sand the wood down a little bit and paint it Silver... it looks great

I've seen a maxima with the same color exterior and a alum. kit over the wood. You can see the wood and the kit is not 100% flush... but I still think it looks better than the wood.

Why not just remove the wood trim first?

well in Mechanics case, the wood is not an overlay... its the physical window switches dash so you cannot remove them

I may have a solution to this. I sell brushed aluminum look vinyl. It looks exactly like brushed aluminum, but it's vinyl. You can use it to cover all the areas that the wood would show through. I don't recommend using it as a dash kit, but you could use it under the dash kit on the edges and corners. It matches the real brushed aluminum dash kits I sell exactly. That way you would never see the wood underneath.

Does the I30 come with a factory wood kit similar to the GLEs, as opposed to the wood kits you could get for an SE at the dealership as an upgrade/package component, that's an aftermarket, taped-on kit?

I'd imagine it wood (ha-ha...bad pun ), so you may have to go over the wood like others have suggested. (I'd imagine that'd be the easiest way)

Here's what I want to try to do. My friend has a 97 max se which he has a wood dash kit for. i want to try and switch his door controls with mine so he would have the actual wood controls and I would have the black ones. now he would have real wood controls and I would have the black door controls. so the only thing I would need is to figure out what I want to do with the center console. will this idea work?

shadow-as for the vinyl, i dont know much about it. could you send me some pics of it or something? how much does it cost? do you have dash kits for my I30?
