Sound after cold startup

Recently my 96 GXE auto makes a sound like "wuuu..." after startup, in gears like "R", "D", "2" or "1" but not in "P" and "N", but I have to apply the brake and let the car stand still to hear that noise. windows are all up and that noise is not that loud but I can clearly hear that. After the idle-RPM drops the noise also drops then eventually it'll completely disappear. Before it disappears, if I very slowly drive the car, the noise seems to either go away or to be covered by the combination of the other noise.

Other than that the car is the same as before. This car was 30K serviced about 4 months ago.

Any idea what that is, or a fix to it is greatly appreciated.

I think I've got the same noise. My car has done it since it was new. I start it cold, then put it in "R", this strange wuuurr noise comes, as soon as it moves or the RPM's drop it seems to go away, but then if I stop rolling it comes back. After running a few minutes it's gone. Wait a sec... now that I think about it.. since I changed my trans fluid to synthetic last month, I think the noise might be gone. I'll check on that one tomorrow morning and post here again. At any rate I think it's definately the trnas making the noise and I don't think there is anything to worry about there.

More info to come tomorrow.......

Thanks for the reply njmaxseltd. I was thinking maybe the belts, and was going to use belt spray just to try and see.

I wouldn't expect the accessory drive belts to have one sound in a motion gear and another in a non-motion gear.
