Front Plate Display on Sarona Kit..to Drill or Not to drill...

I don't think drilling is a good idea for fiberglass. I also know that local cops WILL pull me over for not displaying my front license plate properly (as they did before) .

Is there any mounting assembly available in the market that does not require 'drilling'? tks

Hey MaxGurl if you dislike Maximas so much then why do you own one, and why do you reply to threads about them?

yes you can drill into fiberglass..the question is do u want to. either that or get fix it tickets all the time. there's a trade off.
if you can find someway to use wires to tie the plate down would work. but then again it would look pretty bad. so it's a personal preference.

I'm sure there is some way to fabricate a license plate holder that doesn't involve drilling. It just takes some creative thinking.

You already got a custom front ... make a custom license plate holder. Some plastic, some zipties, a lot of brainstorming and you'll be surprised what you can come up with.

yes...that is true. something like a L bracket drilled into the metal part of the bumper and not on the front comes to mind. also if u really want to go all "JDM" style how about off to the side but slightly lower?

How about some ooglie double sided tape (Thick and strong styrofoam (?) base stuff Like the one holding the emblems on the trunk/ stuff body kits come with) I mean license plate is not that heavy so I would think it would hold with no problems

i would recommend mounting tape too. Even though it isn't a great solution.

Nope, at least not in NYC. I had it there, then I went through a checkpoint. My front bumper is all messed up and I told the officer that I had just recently gotten into an accident. He let me go, but said, "Get that [meaning the license plate] fixed asap."

I wonder what the license plate would do when it flies off and lands on some car behind me... it can be deadly.

NO WAY!! leave it as is.... just tell the cop the kit has no holes for the front plate and that you cannot drill fiberglass or something, lol!

i would leave it alone and maybe rig something using string below in the opening.

I wouldn't mention that to any cop. In some states, if not all, using fiberglass bumper is illegal b/c it doesnt provide as much protection.

get some of that heavy duty velcro stuff that they use to mount the fast lane(ex-pass) thingies. that stuff is strong and you can take it on and off to clean behind it.

you can always bend the top part at a 90 degree angle then bolt the top part from behind against the top of your metal right inside of the bumper. (I think I explained this OK ?)

you'd have to bend a good portion of the plate to do this and i'm sure the popo won't like this just as much.

heh??

Actually, my front plate is bent 'inward' from the accident, have to 'un-bend' it.

maybe im missing something here. the kit comes unmarked and drilled, your body guy had to drill holes where ever it connects to the car to get it to stay, they also had to drill the back so your plate could stay on there also, so why can't you do it up front also?

Rice boys dirve with their bodykits mounted on double sided tape only and while it's not the best solution it works as long as your double stick don't deteriorate so replace it every so often depending on climat. If you ever tried to shave off trunk emblems you would realize that they are not going anywhere with wind +

Turbulence that tries to "flip <it> up"

Turbulence is much smaller than the force of wind trying to hold it to the car (I betcha if you put a plate on the front of the car at 80 it wouldnt go anywhere without any mounting). So I would say go with mounting tape just make sure you anchor all sides of the plate not only top or only bottom

that'll work w/ a piece of paper. i dunno about a license plate. you're speaking from a controlled environment. but with pot holes and bumps the license plate will come loose. also replacing the tape every week is not something she wants to do.

the trunk emblems are not facing the wind. it's also small enough and shaped so that it's semi aero dynamic.

but if she wants tape then by all means go for it. but the risk of a metal plate flipping over your car and damaging your car is there. do u want to risk it?

i use a series of zip ties for my front license plate when i get other fix its signed off.. i filled up the holes with body filler, sanded it down, and used touch up paint. not the best job in the worlds, but better than two black holes with a white rim around it.

Yesterday it finally happened...

I didn't realize I was going 40 and the cop holding a radar gun standing on the road puts his hand up and tells me to pull over:

Cop: Do you know what the speed limit is here?
Me: Yes sir, 25mph school zone
Cop: (shows me the radar gun reading) I have you going 39 but you were actually doing 40.
Me: I'm sorry. I drive thru here every day and I never speed here but it's 9:30, I'm a little late for work. Sorry.
Cop: Do you speed often?
Me: No
Cop: Have you ever gotten pulled over?
Me: No, I have no points.
Cop: (surpised) No points?
Me: I don't speed sir.
Cop: Let me have your license etc.
Me: (briefly took out my raceway tech card while looking for my registration card)
Cop: (Saw the Raceway card and found it amusing, turns to his partner and says: ) She goes to Englishtown (raceway).. (turns to me) and you don't speed?
Me: No sir, that's why I go to racetrack.
Cop: (looks at my car) Smirks.. sure. Maybe you saw the green light there and thought you were at the track. (walks in front of my car then to his patrol car)
Me: silent
Cop: (5 minutes later, he comes to me and hands me a ticket) I'm giving you a ticket for no front plate. I'm letting you go with the speeding because you have no points.
Me: Thank you sir. I appreciated. (I went on to explain why my front plate was mounted behind the mesh grill and not on the bumper).... thanks again.

Where's the cussing? Where's the calling cops "pigs"? Where's the incoherent ranting about police officers stopping innocent people rather than going out and finding crimes to solve? Where's the utter disdain for authority?

just keep the plate in your glove box and should you get pulled over just claim that your front mount has broken and you were on your way to get it fixed, works for me...

Like what mingo said.. use zip ties. Do you have a mesh grill on the bottom bottom area? If you do just zip tie your License plate there.
