I read the above info from jambo about the signature pics. The problem is that on the dedicated server he cant afford a higher traffic bandwidth so he wants to limit pic size. Plus it will take an average 15-20 sec to load a on a 56k modem I have a fiber connection at my house so this is not a problem but being an it guy all I got to say is

Less traffic the better.

Do you realize how blah this website would be with under 50k graphics. If they have a dedicate linux server and at least a t-1 traffic should be no problem.

So what are you complaining about? I don't htink traffic has anything to do with this. HTML code is processed by your local machine, when it reads that tag, it goes to where ever the picture is hosted so it doesn't come through maxima.org. Great that you have fiber to your house, but not everyone can afford or have a company paying for one.

HUH?

OHH Mister html are'nt we special. I thought that all the pics for the signature's were being put on the maxima.org server. If people are linking the pics to other places such as geocites or whatever no wonder they want the under 50k rule. In that case I would have to agree with them. I'm not special I just got a great deal on having fiber run to my house cost me a one time charge of 100.00. I have the bandwidth of a t-1. For 30.00 a month.

Not everyone else is as fortunate as you.

They are just now offering DLS in my area.It won't even be hooked up for me for another week. Not everyone has access to Fast internet access. And why the attitude? Just because you're an "IT guy" doesn't mean you know enough to start slamming the administrator's rules for HIS forum. And This is MUCH nicer than most other forums we have for the Maxima. Nothing against them but at least we can post sig pics on Jambo's.

I totally agree w/ you Chris. I don't have access to dsl or cable. They just don't offer it in my area. It takes me a while to see some of the post, b/c I'm waiting for the sig pics to load.

Re: HUH?

The reason that we are asking that you limit your sig pics to 50kB is due to the small 56k pipe that some people still have. Yes, bandwidth is getting cheaper, but this site is for all people, and we have to contend with the fact that there are those of us who don't have high-speed access in our areas.

Therefore, out of kindness and courtesy to those people, it won't hurt us to limit the sig pics to this size. You can get a nice picture for 50kb that will still show off your Maxima.

Do you pay to use this service?

I think not. You always get what you pay for. You want to add massive pictures, then go create a forum or go join another. I love this forum. I remember a while back when it went down for a few months. I hated it. Heck, I wouldn't mind if Jambo said no pics at all. STOP COMPLAINING!! IT'S FREE!!

P.S. You do not even have a pic in your sig.

Re: HUH?

So let me understand... you don't know hte situation and you still felt the need to make a posting? Also, I am no "Mister html". I am just another "IT guy".

So you have fiber and not DSL?

I agree with Jambo on this one. Sig's are very fun, they give you a chance to show off your car. However they can easily be abused too. I'd like to see something like your first post shows your sig and the following post don't. That would be great IMHO. There are quite a few posts where the sigs are bigger then the reply! That makes for alot of scrolling. The use of home page option under your preferences has been neglected, there you can put as many pics as you like. I know of several forums where the sig option has been dropped totally. So lets all just get along.

Oh ya Happy Halloween!

My 0.2 cents

Hey I'm not a rude person

Yes everyone is right, the over 50k sig pic is a little much. But hey this post just got me out of the lurker status. Not bad ehh. Whoever in this post is getting dsl you may want to stop and think about it. If you live in an area with alot of old phone lines your dsl connection will not be as great as you think. I at one time had dsl but the phone lines are like twenty years old so anytime there was the least little bit of interference the dsl would quit working. It could be caused by small lightning bursts, airplanes, any number of things. If it is gonna cost you above 35.00 a month dont get it and wait for either cable modem or get isdn. Or you could double stack your 56k modems.
Just my $.02

DSL will cost me $40 once they turn it on

And I'm less than a half a mile away from the CO. All phone lines in my apartment were run with CAT 5 cable(!) Why I don't know, but that's what Bell South used. So I should be screamin by this time next week.
