....One brand new Valentine One on it's way. All of the reviews of this unit by .org members were convincing. The final deciding factor that made the decision tooooo easy, was that my friend lives about 5 minutes away from Valentine Research in Cinncinati, and she was coming up to Canada this weekend, so she picked it up and it'll be hand delivered Tuesday. Of course they are illegal here, and she totally freaked me out by calling me on her cell phone just after she crossed the border, saying it had been confiscated. $400.00 U.S = i figure close to $700.00 Canadian..Ouch.
I also have it from a good source that if the police here supsect a driver of having a detector, they can search the car but not your person. I'd better buy some loose fitting shirts/pants!!

How is it even possible that it could be confiscated? Even if the Canadian immigration were to search the vehicle, they have no right to take away property that belongs to an American citizen. Plus, it makes no sense for anyone who is legally in the US to flee to Canada anyway, meaning very few are stopped going into Canada.

I've been to Canada twice and never been stopped by immigration entering Canada but always when returning.

I think he's implying that she was playing a joke on him and it really wasn't confiscated.

Believe it or not I've been stopped 3 times going TO Canada, and never coming back. The US immigration only has to speak to you to know if you're American or not. And if you're bootlegging Cigs how many can you get, one carton per occupant? I don't smoke but Winstons are $19.99 CDN or $12.75 US/carton at the duty-free, so my buddy wants him for his bro'.

Once in a while you get a really wise-*** Canadian immigration officer on the way in. I can't pinpoint why they have that chip on their shoulder, I think it has to do with us going up there to spend money their like it's a game of Monopoly. My buddy took a shot at the guy last time it happened, and I'm glad he did. When we got inside the lady let us go on our way right away without checking anything, so the dude was just trying to cause us some discomfort.

They cannot take your detector, but it was a nice joke!

If you are caught using it, then they can take it but simply being in possession is not illegal. It is not cocaine we are talking about here...

As for crossing the border, Canadian officials almost never stop me. However, the US border officials seem to do it a little more than half the time--which in talking to friends who cross regularly, is pretty bad. By stop, I include going over to get checked, off to the side, and also having to get out of my car and open the trunk (and sometimes take every **** out of there for them to examine). While they don't doubt that I'm "legal" they always think I'm bringing lychees or some other **** in (even when I flatly deny). Never brought any kind of contraband in in the last 15 years but they obviously think I'm a lying sack of dung... No doubt in my mind that minorities get harrassed more than any others...
