What Happens if I UNDEROIL my K&N?

Hey guys ... I cleaned and Re-Oiled my K&N filter last night.

I dunno if I did it right.

Not sure on HOW much oil to use ... I'm worried if I OVER Oil I'll get a screwed Sensor.

What happens if I UNDER-OIL?? Not even sure if I did!

you don't need a lot of oil at all to re-oil the K&N. Just make sure you do one pass that covers every inch of the filter. Don't overdo it. If you under-oil it, you will let dirt/dust/crap get through the filter.

Make sure the filter is pink after you're done oiling. If you see any white spots, oil that area (not too much).

If you underoil, more dirt particles will inter you engine...not good in the long run. A light layer should do, you can usually tell by color. If you unsure, I would just re-clean it again.

I think I over-oiled mine, but then I let it sit in a bucket at a 45 degree angle to let the excess oil drain away...I also wiped off any oil that pooled at the ends...

Could the oil itself hurt your engine? I suppose it could dirty the screen and allow dirt to collect there and block air flow.

it can coat the MAF sensor and cause it to not read correctly

uh-oh, I better take a look at it this weekend...

if the maf sensor is messed up, that means the air-fuel ratio is messed up too, right? Therefore I'd get weird performance...is that correct or am I making stuff up?

the MAF won't measure air flow correctly and performance will be hurt

if that's the case, what's the best thing to clean the MAF sensor so it will get an accurate reading? Cotton swaps with water or something?

some people say you can use carb cleaner, while other say carb cleaner is too harsh for the plastic in the sensor. I think other have used carb cleaner before, but I have never needed to clean the MAF

Where is the MAF sensor? What does it look like?

look just past the air box in which the filter sits. There is a tube connected to it that has a wire harness sticking into it. The MAF sensor sits inside this tube just past the mesh grill which can be seen if you open the air box up.
