NE Winters comin.... What tires to get
I'm in Maine & run Yokohama Guardex winter tires on my Maxima, plus 2 other of my cars. They work great & cost less. Go to www.tires.com
They have great prices & are shipping for free until 10/31.

Re: NE Winters comin.... What tires to get
I live in Wisconsin where we get some mass quantities of snow. Last winter was especially bad; we had 2' of snow on the ground for much of the winter.
I had a set of four blizzaks & steel rims on my last car. Let me tell you, the difference was amazing! Where other cars including AWD sedans and SUV's were slipping and sliding through interections, I was passing them in unplowed lanes with no difficulties. I felt totally confident driving in snow; sometimes TOO confident.
Read through all the user reviews at http://www.tirerack.com on snowtire performance; the Blizzaks are definitely the crowd favorite. Another tire that gets good ratings are the Michelin Arctic Alpin's, although their tread design seems less geared towards really deep snow. Depends on what kind of snow you get in your region.
Do yourself the favor of buying a full set of rims and snow tires. Your winters will be safer and you'll save treadwear on your summer tires. Just don't expect crisp handling with the winter tires. They have mushy sidewalls and their tread patterns definitely hum at highway speeds.

TOM

Arctic Alpin
People bad mouth this tire, but it's really designed as a compromise. It is not the end-all in the snow. It was designed for good snow/ice traction while also still being good on dry. Not all roads will be snow covered--in fact, most winters, roads are dry/
That being said, I regret not getting a more dedicated snow tire. Artic Alpin is certainly great on dry roads in winter, which is most driving days, but when their is snow, it's weaknesses become apparent.
