Ground-Control/Koni Shocks Installation
Ground-Control/Koni Shocks Installation
hey what's up everybody. just want to know if installation of ground-control coilovers and koni shox are easy to install on a 99 max. I'm not that familiar with doing this myself but would like too. is it easy enough to do? or should i bring it too a body shop? if anybody could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

it shouldn't be too hard it you have the proper tools and a little common sense....i just installed the weapon r's and the konis.,piece of cake
hey thanks for the info. but when you put on your koni's, i know that some modifications have to be done to the original strut housing. is this a simple process to do? even for an unexperienced person like me?the instructions that came with the koni's are alright, but not that great. but if you could help me out, i would be greatly appreciated. thanx.
the konis are pretty straight forward......
once you have everything removed....all you have to do is:
1.)at the top of the strut there is a gold cap lookin thingy.....you have to cut directly below it.....once you cut through that.....remove the old strut.
2.)now....drill a 14mm hole on the bottom of the housing...this is the hole that the bolt will go through to keep the KONI STRUT in place....
3.)now the "top hat piece" needs to be modified....this is the thing that goes directly over the top of everything.....it is in the shape of a "D" you need to drill that out into a circle....if you don't know what im talking about here.....you will....cuz when you try to put this piece back on.....it wont go....and you'll see what im talking about....that's basically it.....its simple...
let me know if you need anymore help......or have any more ?'s....

oh yeah......and make sure that before you but the front koni insert in....you slide the collar of the coilover..onto the strut housing....cuz the front konis have a lip.....and they won't fit over it......so you need to install the collar.....then the strut.....

hmm let see if I can be of any help since I did my front ones myself
see the diagram, cut about 1 inch off from the bottom of the rod why? one inch theres a metal round type cylinder that youll never cut through now drain that fluid inside the shock. Once you cut the top off that off you have to drill a hole on the bottom of the stock shock housing try using oil. Clean it up the inside. Now slide the koni insert and grab that bolt it came with and along with the big washer and tighten it up. You know when you popped your hood you removed those 3 nuts, and it had the one nut in the middle that holds the spring and the shock together, well the koni shock rod is a bit thicker so use a drill to make that hole a bit bigger.
Not hard at all if you have a electric cutter that has rough sand paper like material youll cut the shocks in minutes. and a strong drill. Hopefully Matt mardigrasmax gets his Konis and Cumalot which I think has a digital camera we can get some Installaion Pics for everyone.
