heres a pic of what happens:



the weird part is that it doesn't stay like that and my car isn't overheating. the gauges don't always act up together. sometimes the fuel would fall back to normal first then follows the temp a few mins later. other times its vice versa. sometimes when i start the car they would shoot up like in the pic then fall back to normal. other times when i start the car the gauges would be normal and then shoot up out of nowhere. last year i changed the coolant temp. sensor and i stop having this problem. so now i'm not sure what it is. you guys think it could be the coolant temp. sensor again? it has less than 10k on it.

any input would be appreciated. thanks fam

 

Have you taken them apart recently?

 

nope. never have.

 

I have an intermitten problem with the dials not moving at all and the odo not turning on. The back lights will go on with the head lights. I never figured it out. I would restart the car, or stop the car and wait like 5-30 min. Then the problem would go away.

 

The fuel and coolant temp gauges use the same ground. This ground 0V (solid black wire goes to pin 16 of connector at the rear of gauge cluster), this is probably used as a reference for the two gauges. This is the only thing common to both of the gauges. I would check connection at the back of gauge cluster and make sure this solid black wire is properly grounded. I don't know how hard it is to get at these.
