Subwoofer problem

Last night my subwoofer just stopped working. Whats weird is that when I turn off the radio and turn it back on (no matter how slow or fast) the sub will work for like 10 seconds and then "turn off". I opened my trunk and the blue light on my alpine mrp-m450 was on. I just tried to mess with it; I checked the power cable at both ends, ground, sub to amp and it was all good. Anyone have any idea what's happening? The sub is a pioneer ts-w30m so the amp should have enough power for it. Any help is appreciated.

Check the internal wiring in the sub box, and also make sure nothing is loose anywhere.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking something got loose at the headunit or inside the box but why does it work for a little bit everytime I turn the radio on and off?

It wouldn't overheat in 10 seconds unless there is a wiring issue of some sort or if a coil on the sub is blown or the amp.

Low impedance possibility which could come from a bad coil...

What's the most powerful sub I can use with that amp, the alpine mrp-m450? It's specs: http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=MRP-M450

You could use any sub, but something with like 300 wrms dual 4 ohm would be ideal so you have some headroom.

Hmm, I would suggest an Alpine Type R, but I believe I read one of your posts in another thread, and it just sounded like you were sending your sub a h3ll of a clipped signal. Not trying to flame you, but before you buy another sub, learn how to match your sub with your amp. Cause if you go out with the same mentality in the way you were driving your current sub, you're just going to blow your coils again. So try to match your sub with the right amp with the correct load so you want be going through this again.

The Type R is better than the Kenwood and you can find it for around $110. But the Kenwood is not bad if you find it for under $100.

I realized that the Kenwood is a 4 ohm sub and that's not matched right to my amp wattage rattings. Which one would be better for my amp, the 2 ohm or 4 ohm type r?

You would want to get an Alpine dual 4 ohm for that amp and wire it down to 2 ohms to get the most out of it. Check the link for reference.

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161

The type R can take way more power than your amp can deliver, but you should be alright with your gains set correctly, don't abuse bass boost and don't go crazy with the volume.....basically don't drive your amp into clipping.

Also, is the Kenwood dual voice coils or single? I believe they are single but I can't remember. If they are dual, you're okay with the 4ohm sub.

I have a 4ohm Type R if you're interested. Actually, I have two. PM me if you would like to discuss.
