Installed Hawk HPS brake pads and resurfaced front rotors.

The pedal feel is very soft and have reduced braking performance. Do I need to bleed the lines?

I thought bleeding the brake lines was only necessary

if connection to caliper was opened. How else would air get into the brake line?

I'm guessing you did something you weren't supposed to.

Nope... just used a C-clamp to push the caliper piston back.

Kept an eye on the reservoir so as to not overflow.

Check the pad position. It's possible (more so for the rears) that they are off angle and not making full contact on the rotor itself. But, in the end, I think a good bleeding should be on order anyhow.
