replacing automatic shifter/steering wheel
replacing automatic shifter/steering wheel
I was at the the local u-pull it junk yard the other day. The had about six 4th gen maxima's there. One of them had perfect interior just like mine. So I got some new door interior panels for under $30. I also wanted the automatic shifter for my car. But it seemed to be imposable to remove. Mine works fine but it is very dirty and I would like to change it. How hard would this be to do? I also wanted the steering wheel. But dont have a steering wheel puller, is there any way to get a steering wheel off of a maxima with out one. using common tools?
Next week there are having a special, $30 transmissions, I think I might take one off of one the maxima's and rebuild it so I have and extra that I can just install if mine breaks. odds are it wont even need rebuilt because all the maxima's are front end collisions.

I have tried, but it is way to far gone. I have changed it now with a almost new one off a junk maxima. If anyone else needs to know how, I can write it up.

.
i took the steering wheel off with out a puller. U need to take the air bag off, and then just the, i think 19MM bolt in the middle. once thats off, u just need to pull like a sob. I just kept boths hands opposite from each other and kept working around the wheel. Then i just yanked it a few times and it came off. Yes, this is the hard way, but i didnt feel like buying a puller either. so GL
