Is there any way to put the bose headunit from another bose equipped vehicle into a bose equipped maxima?

 

Depends on what vehicle it came out of. It can always be modded to fit. Why would you replace a Bose HU with another? All it is is a clarion deck in cloak "n" dagger form. There are waaaaaaayyyyy better units out there with more features and better sound. Having the bose speakers are good, but the need for another BOSE Unit is not needed. My cd player crapped out on me 2 weeks ago and I was hurt I was going to have to pay $500 to get it repaired, but I found out with a special adapter, I can bypass that and get a nice HU that will work 10 times better. If you prefer Bose, then Good Luck!!

 

I found a dvd touchscreen bose headunit for 300 bucks with navagation system. Its off another car with bose in it, thats why.

 

Yes, putting another bose in will work.

If you want an aftermarket headunit, it will work if you buy a scosche adapter.

I would go with bose just because it matches. I'm not big on the stereo's, so I would understand if someone wanted to keep it bose. Just my .02, I know that's not the issue here.:stfu:

 

Ok, in that case for the price I would do the same thing! You should be able to just put it in and go since it is a Bose. If not, then you would need the adapter mentioned above.

 

Yes but it only talks about replacing your headunit with aftermarket non-bose systems.
Not a OEM headunit from another car that is equipped with a BOSE audio system.

 

It might fit, and it might not fit for example, i've seen people install the head units from certain years of the pathfinder and 350z. the best thing that you can do is find out the year and model of the car that it came from, and either look it up online somewhere or call the dealership to see if it's fully compatible with your existing harnesses. I got tired of my bose speakers blowing out, so i finally killed the whole system and installed this head unit with some infinity component speakers. It works great! looks cool and blends in perfectly with the dash:

The main issues you need to check are:
1 - physical dimensions (size) of the replacement unit.
2 - the wire harness connectors.
3 - flat faced or curved. 3rd & 4th gens have flat faces, 5th & newer have curved.
The mounting brackets from the original unit will give you the correct positioning as long as the replacement unit has bracket screw holes in the same position.

 

just get any aftermarket unit.

better sound quality, compatible with compressed formats, more power, remote controlled in most cases, subwoofer output. what more do you need ?

oh and get rid of those ridiculous bo$e speakers in the process

 

when i switched out my Bose HU on a 98 MAX it wasnt because it didn't work. I just wanted a HU that played MP3 CD's...so i went with an aftermarket that was the basic aftermarket head unit. Rectangular shape, about have the height of the Bose headunit. If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself most places that put in Alarms put them in. Harness needs to be changed depending on the brand you buy and dash kit so now I have the head unit and underneath a shelf..I usually put a pack of cigs or my cell there.....I did this change back in 2000. I've changed it again to a Pioneer unit, and yes def better sound after Aftermarket, The amp builit into the Aftermarket is better than the one built into the stock....Anyway would up getting 2 12inch subs, and changed my door speakers.....If your worried about the look and want it too look they way it does now, either leave it without getting a different BOSE HU or buy an aftermarket that fits the full size of the opening

Ya people are always talking **** about them, mine sound ****ing awesome.

 

i've always liked them until my front ones started to die. Oh and the tweeters are shot. But even then they still put out pretty good sound. Need to find some new ones asap.

Im an audio enthusiast, I have heard bo$e speakers in a 98 gle (gf's uncle) and they sound awful. Trust me guys, there are better sounding speakers out there cheaper than that bo$e crap.

 

so you're basing this off one car? Sweet. And yeah I'm sure there are better speakers out there. No one said there weren't. Just that the stock bose arn't as ****ty as people say they are.

 

I agree, a lot of people say the bose sounds like crap, but I thought my bose was pretty good, only problem is that the surround kept separating from the front speakers. I replaced them with some infinity component speakers, and changed the head, and everything does sound a lot better. but the bose sound was by no means bad (at low volumes, at least )

yeah i know i heard it only once in a max, but this confirms it with the other times i heard bose anywhere else - showroom - venue - concert hall, and have read about other people's experiences with bose on the CNET forums

All i am saying is that if you get another head unit, and you are looking for better sound quality, you will not get it with the stock bose speakers. I am also saying that there are speakers out there that are cheaper than getting bose, and will sound better (price/performance ratio)

and i dont even think an after market unit will work with bose speakers because they are self amplified...

 

Yes it will, ask anyone on here who has put an aftermarket HU onto the stock bose system and they will tell you it made the bose sound even better.

Wrong again, there are multiple adapters out there that let you hook up an aftermarket HU to the bose system without any problems.

 

yeah the adapters are probably there to reduce the impedance miss match since the bose speakers are rated at a ridiculous impedance something like 2 ohms i believe.

i duno, i dont have bose in my car and still replaced all the speakers and tweeters with the head unit, i guess i am that **** about my audio. after all it is very subjective and very much a personal preference. I hated the bose sound in that 98 gle i heard it in and thats what i know for a fact.

For me, i will never assosiate anything i own with bose and their clever marketing tactics

and remember, price for performance ratio, how much are you willing to shell out for another set of bose speakers once the originals pop ?

just look at all the bad bose complains on this site alone, dont you see that ?

 

Do you still have that stock max head unit? I just smashed mine because of the damn volume problem in mine. Can't find any replacements either.

 

You know what, maybe its just me and my hatred for bose after reading some bad stories on the CNET forums and personal subjective experience...

By all means go ahead, listen to whatever you like and whatever makes you happy, i just know this, i rather listen to SILENCE than anything played on a bose system, thats all

 

Yeah, I absolutely love my bose system, plus I can't afford to spend much more cash on my car for things that I really don't need at this point.

I need to blow around 350 on just some new heads/tails and a r33 front bumper if someone *COUGH* *COUGH* decides to split up their kit!

 

what about removal of rear speakers and door speakers? i cant seem to figure out how. :S

My plan is to install an 05/06 pathfinder bose headunit, search on it, all that needs to be done is splicing one wire in the harness. I am aslo a fan of the bose, they sound awesome when they are working perfect, in fact the stock bose in my '96 sounds a little better & bangs more than the bose in the '04, odd but it's the truth. Some people want obnoxious bass, I hate that, it makes me feel like crap when it vibrates my eyelashe's, and a few years down the road when they get f&***(ed for life and experience the pleasure of having a polyp removed from there ear I'll still be bumpin' on my stock bose with killer vocals. If anything, the addition of a solabarex L7 to a stock bose is all I will do, my buddy had that in his '95 years ago and it was f'in fantastic!

 

Majority of the "Bose" complaints are really about the Clarion HU with Bose badge on the cassette door.

 

Hence the replacement of the clarion HU.

That thing is a POS.

I bought an amp integration harness (metra 70-7551) from ebay. Using the pre-outs on my pioneer headunit, the harness lets me retain use of the bose speakers and amps. Sounds great!

Because from what people have told me, changing the headunit to a non bose aftermarket headunit and keeping the OEM bose speakers, makes the bose sound like crap.

yeah once I get new front speakers (hopefully this weekend) I'm popping my old pioneer hu into my car. Get the converter stuff and good to go.
