HG repair attempt! - need advice!

OK so i have a very slight leak with my hg. so i did a lot of researching and a lot. I invested in Steel Seal (www.stealseal.com)after reading up and reading how successful it is. So this week i will attempt to use it. on the directions it wants me to heat the engine up to 210 degrees. How do i measure that temperature since our gauges have no numbers. and ofcourse I will do a write up on this if it does successfully work.

Just wondering, how do you know your head gasket is leaking? Why not just replace the gasket? you should just buy one...take a look here:

http://store.auctionfrontier.com/Ite...h?sck=17484517

I bought the entire engine gasket set for $25 and can varify that the quality is very good. Ishino is the OEM supplier for nissan gaskets. The head gasket set for $18 is well worth it.

because i don't have 10+ hours, all the tools or knowledge to replace it right now. this is just temporary. I am not sure if i am going to keep it and fix/mod it to the max (heh heh pun) or buy a new car. to do a HG u need to buy all new belts, water pump. be able to do timing. and have lots of time. this is my temporary fix and test.

What sign gave away a cracked gasket? Do you have oil in your coolant? The link for that site should be www.steelseal.com just to fix it. I'd be pretty leery about pouring that into the engine though...it looks like it could do more harm than good.

understood. i have researched it and have heard NOTHING but good things. so I will try it. the bottle is sitting in front of me.

(coolent is extremely dirty. oil has slight leak so hard to find coolent in it but i can find a light milky ring on the cap, the car slightly over heats)

I thought you already done this job?

What about the scar on your finger?

How are you going to lie your way out of this one?

dude you don't have to lie about your skill level. Everyone here knows that I'm mostly a noob but I still try crap anyhow. Doesn't always work but doesn't stop me from trying. And i learn from it. Like now I know that the equipment I used to try and drill out my broken studs was inferior because the bits broke. And doing my poly mount taught me that horizontal positioning of the center sleeve is absolutely critical to getting the engine to line up with the mount when you're done.

takes me less than 10 hours to do this job. i did my timing belt, water pump, thermostat, belts, spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, and all the accessory belts in about 2.5 to 3 hours.

LOL!

Dude,do you think i or any of the other mechanically inclined people on this board were born with a wrench in our hand? No,we all had to do the same thing, LEARN how to work on cars by trial and error.Did you know how to drive car the second you got behind the wheel?no again, you had to learn, just like everyone else, sometimes by mistake.

If you are not comfortable with doing engine or other mechanical work, fine me nor anyone else is going to think you are stupid or flame you because of this,Hell most of the members of this forum wouldn't know how to do a head gasket job, that is a very detailed/difficult job to do on an engine..if it happened to my car tomorrow,i would be at the local junk yard buying a nice used engine to swap into my car,not because i cant do a h/g job, because imo it's just easier and less time consuming to swap the engine out.(just like i recommended you to do on aim when you asked me what to do about your blown head gasket..remember?)

Lying about your abilities is going to get you nowhere in life, sooner or later all of your lies come full circle,as seen right here in this thread

Oh one more thing btw..Fix your cardomain page...Your car does not have 220hp/borla exhaust/Injen intake/20vt performance chip/or ported and polished heads.

I'm gonna go ahead and start the flaming. Feel free to follow along people! HA YOU COULDN'T CHANGE YOUR HG!!!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Nah I'm just kidding, like Wayne said, swap engine or go to a professional and have em look at it. I wouldn't use that crap. Bar Leaks gets plenty of good reviews but we fix plenty of cars at work that have all that gunk and crap in the cooling system that pretty much ends up making you replace everything and do a cooling system flush which will run you MORE in the long run.

If you're keeping the car, spend time on it and if not then save up and have someone who has the capacity do to it for ya. If I may, I'd suggest you ask Alex V for some help, he's quite knowledgeable when it comes to this.

EDIT
Another suggestion, read the SteelSeal testimonials and at the bottom there's like 2 shops that gave their testimony, I googled the one in PA, I think you should google em both and call to find out what they say. Just ask if they sell SteelSeal and see if they even recognize the product

I replaced a head gasket on my 1st car, it was a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and it took like a day and a 1/2 with the help of my dad.

Aww don't be ashamed. I have headlight wipers with no juice because I got intimidated by the wiring schematic (I feel like a total posuer.) I also have a digital dash and climate control in the bedroom closet. I hope one day I will either take the time to learn how to do these things or make enough money to leave the car with someone who can. But for now its all on hold.

Did your wipers come with the car (regional thing) or did you add em on from a non US maxima?

Reason I asked it because I dont know where he's from and ever since that day the org went down most of the users basic info under the username is gone unless the user re enters it.

I'm guessing he might be in the UK and the wipers came from factory but then again he's got a US grille

Car repairs

My dad loves cars, but we have a joke in the family that whatever he tries to fix has to go back into the shop to be fixed again. He feels bad about it, particularly when my car acts up, but not everyone is a mechanic. It also helps to have money when something does break down!
