Who ended up with my VE??

Hey long time since i've been on here. I was just wondering if the .org member who purchased my motor from someone in NJ was on here. it was a VE with N/A 300ZX pistons, VTC rebuild and other such nonsense.

just wondering how its treating you.

I bought it and I'm going to be installing it in 1-2 weeks. I've been too busy to get around to installing it and I still need to paint some more parts. I'm not sure if you remember, but I was actually thinking about buying your Maxima before you parted it out. Instead, I bought Jeff92se's Maxima and soon it'll have your old engine in it.

You haven't heard Jeff's engine plight, have you?

Let's just say he's the master of killing good-running VEs.

Jeff's motor ran ok when i bought the car, but when summer time came around I noticed the engine was pinging quite a bit even after I replaced the KS. I later found out that the KS doesn't do anything if you have a jwt ecu... I was also revving it to 7k alot which caused some of my valves to float a little bit when I was at 7k in a higher gear. For example, I would be at 7k in 3rd gear, slow down to a stop, and then the engine would be firing on 5 cylinders. After about 30 seconds of normal driving, it would run completely normal again. I came to the conclusion that when the motor was at 7k for a while the valves in one cylinder would float just enough that the lifters would completely fill up with oil which would keep these valves open for a little while until the oil in the lifters escaped.

Ever since all of this BS happened I've noticed less power and compression. It was like this long before I installed nitrous. The condition of the engine hasn't noticeably changed since my nitrous fun and I've used it quite a bit. I'd like to blame it mostly on the jwt ecu (I just sold it) and a little bit on my driving style.

My new motor will run off the factory ecu along with an emu.

good to hear that you ended up with it...i vaguely remember like 2-3 people interested in the whole car.
at any rate assuming you didnt touch the CAS, and tune with an AFC, it should put down 195hp/190ftlb (SAE corrected) if you have the same garbage exhaust setup i had. when i switched to a full warp speed setup, it was a big difference in power.
make sure you replace the water pump, the seller must've told you about that.

The seller had already replaced the water pump.

I have a exhaust already, but it's kind of is pos. Although, I will be getting a full wsp exhaust soon. I'm undecided about getting a 2.5" or a 3" because I'm going to be spaying a 150 shot of nitrous.

CAS??

Are you calling intake spacers "nonsense"? I remember you were one of the first to make your own intake spacer for the VE.

Please keep the nitrous forum updated on your 150 shot venture! I will be stepping into the 150 shot realm in the near future and I'd like to hear your experiences before I do. I will probably go with a dual stage shot for the 150, but I may try out a progressive controller with my 75-125 shot first to see how I like it. I have to find a way to launch while turning up the power in 2nd gear.

Hey, what's wrong with that exhaust!

Man, Johnnymax's motor is deadish now too. Dang, that was a long day picking up that engine in Oregon.

Sorry Jeff...

The exhaust is a bit too small and it's press bent. The Y-pipe has broken at least 5 times in different areas mainly because there wasn't a hanger in the cat section.

Who is Johnnymax?

That cattman Y was made of some thin metal. I fixed it once and the hanger came off. But I never had any problems with it. The exhaust pipe was 2.25" which might be small for some. But I didn't want to chance any velocity loss with 2.5".

Considering all other exhausts are going to be flanged, I don't think you will be able to get a better flanged system than the one I put on. No gaskets and no leaks. If the flex section you get with your new system is as short as what the Cattman unit was, it will break. It has to be as long as the one I custom put in.

Johnny was the guy I bought this motor from

you have a pic of this custom section you installed?

just want to compare it with my warpspeed section.

I was able to go with a longer flex because I used a shorter carsound 4 gen cat

4 gen cat w/ custom flanges vs 3 gen RT cat (that broke apart btw)

What is the length of the flex section you welded in there?

I think it might have been an 8". Meaning the flex section itself was 8". The oem cattman had like a 4" flex section. Way too short. It wasn't long enough to accomodate the movement and the accordian pipe inside cracked

Maybe this might give you a good relative size. Your's looks long enough. (Grizzly Adams)

That flex section ended up leaking for some odd reason and I ended up replacing it with one from my turbo downpipe that I'm not using. It works great, but it looks funny because it's 3" diameter.

The WSP exhaust that I installed on my old Maxima had a much better design. It's still holding up great without any leaks. Recently, I got to see, drive, and work on my old Maxima because I went to visit Washington.

Matt, your name isn't green anymore?? Did you sell Blehmco?

Checked the Mod forum.. evidently Sprint's got some free time on his hands and is playing with the sponsors/vendors and banner ads and such. I haven't paid for sponsorship in several months, so I'm sure he's bumping me off.

But no, I haven't sold Blehmco yet. (it IS for sale tho. see the FS forum)
