Question of tranny after drop resistor mod
Question of tranny after drop resistor mod
I now have a switch in my car to do the drop resistor mod. I'll be using this for drag racing only, so I hope I'm in the right section. Here's the question: Do I shift my tranny manually or let the car do it? I noticed the car still shifts at a little over 6K when left in "D". When I shift the car myself I can take it right before redline and shift it into the next gear. Which way should I do it for drag racing? Is it bad for the tranny to shift it manually when I have the resistor disconnected(full line pressure)?
I always shift manually with my DR off. Mainly because my car doesnt actually shift until about 200rpms after I push the stick forward. Then it shifts hard at redline. I've been doing this for about 2 years now with no problems.
Thanx for the info. Just out of curiosity...Does your 350Z have a similar resistor that can be disconnected?
Actually I recently started a thread about that on my350Z. The feedback I got was that it doesnt and the TCM actually controls the line pressure that the tranny gets. They said that the TCM would have to be reflashed in order for it to be done and a few companies are offering it for like $700 or something like that. I'm sure if someone looked into it further they could figure out another way to do it.
$700 seems quite high compared to the freebie mod of the max. I love the way my car shifts at wot now. I can totally feel the difference. I just keep a printed sheet of the ecu reset procedure in my car now so I can reset it before my wife gets in the car and freaks out like today..."Oh my God, why's the check engine light on?" I'm taking it to the track this saturday to hopefully knock my times down.
