Do you specifically find a parking spot where no one else is?
Do you specifically find a parking spot where no one else is?
I was just curious to know whether or not other max owners like myself walk 1/4 mile consistantly to the mall entrance or the grocery store. I don't like parking next to other cars, becuase it seems like no one around here has the same respect for other cars as I do. If I'm in a tight spot, I make sure (I mean I'll snake my *** out the car) not to hit the other car, even putting my fingers between my door and theirs because it's their car, and it could be their baby too.
But on the flip side, some a**hole comes careening along, and parks 2 inches from my door, and decides that he needs more room to get out. So he figures that I have those new holographic doors and that he can just borrow that extra space from my door. *&%^$#*&%^@#!!!!
I swear, if I ever see someone do that to another persons car, I'd knock them out because that could just as easily be my car. But if I ever saw them do it, and then not have the courtesy to leave me a note, well, you ever see Casino? Remember when that guy gets stabbed in the neck? Yeah, something like that
EDIT: Oh yeah, WHY THE **** WHEN YOU PARK IN AN EMPTY SPOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LOT AND HAVE A 30-SPOT DIAMETER ALL AROUND YOU, DO YOU COME OUT AND FIND AN A**HOLE NEXT TO YOU!!!!!!
Oh yeah, and incase you haven't noticed, I am venting because my door took a hit from something that was probably a big raised jeep, hummer or truck.....
EDIT 2 lol: What happened to the language filter?

Indeed. I do this as well. People think I'm being paranoid and silly but I'd rather know I took some precautions than have to go through the stress and anger that someone dinging my door will cause me..
I always try to park in the last spot in a parking row and I try to get the car as close as possible to the side of the spot that has no other parking spot next to it. Its hard to explain but Im sure many of you know what I mean...it really helps with the door dings. It leaves only one side of the car vulnerable to possible door dings but its unlikely given that you give the person next to you so much room to open their door.
In my school we have this parking garage with 5 floors. The only people who park on the 5th floor are those who are really careful with their cars..mostly the fancy cars and there will never be 2 cars parked next to each other.

I always tell myself that if/when I park next to other cars and come out to find a hardcore dent in the door, then I don't care if it was the car that is parked there or not, but I am punching a HUGE dent in their door!
, I am famous for that too. I just hope and pray that it is the same door that hit mine. One time, I was walking to my car and I saw the guy that parked next to me hit my door with a good amount of force from his Ford Taurus, and worst of all, he looked as though he didn't even give a sh*t. I gave him a dirty look as we both walked past each other and then I carefully engraved my initials into his door with my key before I left.
If I cannot find a space I feel is wide enough to protect my Maxima, or a space where nobody can park beside me, I don't do business at that facility.
Usually, by parking either at the far end of the lot, or parking in another little-used lot in the general vicinity, I can patronize almost any business. My wife is the same way. Whether we are in her vehicle or in my Maxima, we usually end up walking hundreds of feet from the far end of the lot, or even from another business's lot, but we don't mind doing that.
We have NEVER jammed into a typical obscenely narrow space with lots of cars around. PERIOD.
As a result, we have had no dings on either our 2000 SE or 2004 SL, both bought new.

Damn!!
I am REALLY glad to find out I am not the only one doing this... my friends and my girl are ALWAYS busting my ***** for either parking in a spacious spot or even parking away from entrances...
They just dont understand....

Also, I live in the truck capital of the world (not just Calgary, but all of Alberta) and not only is someone always parked next to me when I park out of the way...
but, it's always some GD F350 or some other god awfully large vehicle.
Man, I hate trucks

That's awesome! Not really, but an eye for an eye even though he took your eye and you took off a limb!
I understand. I sometimes feel that if you park far away from others that you are asking to get broke into. I try to always park in between VERY NICE cars when I go somewhere. I do not park in between broke down escorts and sh*t.
It depends on the availability of parking space. I try to park next to nice cars. Figure they are worried like me as to who parks next to them. I also try to park next to Maximas, and Nissan or Infiniti cars. Hopefully the the respect within the Nissan/Infiniti family is good among the owners.
so any one have experience with insurance claims and parking lot damage? I know it's comprehensive, but is it a deductible for each dent, scratch, etc?
nothing is more sickening than washing/claying/polishing/waxing just to bring out all the little flaws even more.
that is why i park far away. (plus to burn some calories

If I've got an absolute POS, I don't care. If it is a car I like then I do some walking or make efforts to park in a more isolated area. I have a fairly recent paint job on my Vic and some a-hole put a nice divot in the driver's door. Some one else backed into the front of the car at a downtown parking garage.
Minirant: Why the hell ain't parking spaces made for normal sized cars anymore???? Half the garages down town the nose of my car sticks out two feet past the end. I'm driving a 4 door sedan, not a tank for god sakes. It's like they are trying to discourage you from driving anything that does not require a windup key. The people driving full size pickups and SUVs must have a ball with this. End mini rant.
I hate that two inches from my door crap. I walked out from a doctor's appointment with my daughter, who had loaded her diaper. I found a new mustang parked so close that I couldn't fit between the 'Stang and my van to get into the side door to change her. I crawled in through the driver's door and over the center console with the baby, then changed her. As a present I unrolled the nasty diaper and stuck it to the guy's hood. I bet that was a delight to remove after a little while curing in the Georgia summer sun.

if i have a choice i tend to park next to more expensive or more well-maintained cars for a couple of reasons:
first) a nicer car tends to have a more responsible owner; an owner less willing to fling his drivers side door open and ding BOTH of our cars - an owner more careful when he is cutting the wheel to back out of the spot. and something does happen, these are hte owners usually willing to leave a note on your windsheild or wait for you to return. parking next to a beater with rust spots and dented fenders just screams carelessness. those are the people who scratch ur sh*t intentionally for kicks. most of them dont even carry comp and collision.
second) i live in florida. many many cars are stolen here. i think its one of the highest states per capita as far as grand theft auto goes. so if you are parked next to a 91 civic and a theif only has a couple of seconds to make a concealed move, your max is gone.
then again if you are parked next to an 07 RS8, your car looks like a piece of dogsh*t, and you get to drive home thinking about how much it would have sucked if yours was the one taken.

I object. your car has a lesser chance of getting broken into. if you have tons of cars together they can pick a side door and bam they're in. parking out further prevents people with bad **** kids, buggy's, and people knocking off mirrors. anybody can break in a car anywhere? but im sure if ur car is out far then they arent gonna be dumb enough to break in a car in the clear right?
oh yea and one time i parked out far as hell. TELL me why this stupid lady came and parked dead next to me??? i just looked at her crazy like "are u serious" and drove off to another spot

For me it also depends on where I'm parking. Like if I'm at work I have a parking spot that I get everytime I work becuase it's away from minivans with kids that don't know how to open doors. Other places I'll feel fine parking close if shopping carts and etc. aren't involved.

This is the approach I take as well. The only thing I would like to add is that the spot must be a right end spot, meaning that your passenger side of your car is next to the curb. Thus, only one person can park to your left, and hopefully that person didn't have a passenger, and there is no risk of a door ever being opened into you. Just got to be careful not to scratch your rims.
I also never park next to old cars with ginormous doors like Caddillacs, thunderbirds, 82-92 camaros etc.
i hate it when **** like this happens.. its like a common courtesey for all car enthusiasts or whoever cares for they're car.. but the freakin **** that dont **** me off..
thats why i claim my own parking spot at school.. first in the row.. so the only person to park next to me would be on my drivers side.. intentionaly so i can spot anything done to my car and bash whoever and all-ever is near MUAHAH.. karma is a b!tch..
so far.. no one ef's with my parking spot.. and its a public lot but everyone knows what i drive and where i park.. its pretty cool lol

i park way the hell out in the parking lot all the time. people call me **** when it comes to my car. we didn't pay 30K+ for our brand new cars for some ******* in their beat up escort or 4X4 to park next to your car and just fling their door open on ours. or for careless people to not return their shopping cart to a cart corral and leaving them on the sloped incline of the parking lot to just roll away the next time grandma farts 2 miles away.
my car has only been dinged once at the mall. whats worse is that i hadn't gotten out of the car yet and confronted the girl after i feel the car move and hear the thud. she was in a F with a mild lift kit on it and put a baseball size dent in my passenger side door right next to the door handle. any harder of a hit and it would have creased the metal. i got out as she laughed and told the person she was on the phone with about the big *** dent she just put in my car. i told her she was going to pay for the repair and she ignored me and proceeded into the mall. I'm pissed and get my DVD cam out of the trunk and film some nice close ups of the the dent and paint transfer and her license plate. i waited for her to come out and tell her again that one way or another she is going to pay for the repair. she called her boyfriend. I'm thinking that I'm about to either get me *** kicked or hurt someone that had nothing to do with her denting my door. you couldn't imagine how cool he was and willing to take care of the repair. it didn't hurt that he was employed at the most reputable body shop in the area though.
bottom line though i love my car and want it to be flawless and clean all the time. it would have been fixed either way at the same body shop weather i paid for it or by another responsible adult.

Are you kidding?
I drive an 8 year old family sedan. It's really not even that serious, although the Max is about 10000000000000000000000000x cleaner than the last car I had.
U can't be obsessive compulsive about a daily driver; if ur scared to get ur car dinged up, buy another one you can and leave your baby home

Since I can't; I'll take a few minutes out of my day to try to avoid getting her scratched up. I doesn't always work, but it helps. On a related note: Never, never, never, never park anywhere near the cart corral at the store.
It's just fun I guess, kind of like cart hockey
maan the crap happend to me AGAINNN! at walmart i parked like 3/4 ways toward the end

I had a situation after i bought a car thank god not my Max but still a new car. I parked way out from everyone else and when I came out to the car later two people had parked on either side of my car leaving only inches from either door so no way to open the doors. So luckily this car had a hatch so I climbed over the back seat and worked my way to the front cranked the car and moved it. Then I went back and let the air out of at least two of there tires so that using their spare would not be an option. There are always going to be butt heads every where.
People just don't think anyone else should have a nice car and figure if they can't have one then you can't either.

If you watch the malls and other shopping areas women tend to push the door open with their foot rather than opening with their hands. I have seen several cars dinged by women shoving their doors open with their foot and I just have to shake my head. Plus they never seem to care.
I had a girl at my apartment complex years ago pull up beside my car and fling her door open and it actually rocked my car she hit it so hard and I was watching her from inside the car and she didn't even look to see if she had done anything. i didn't get a response out of her until I rolled down my window and all she said was oops! sorry about that. If I hadn't have been in the car she wouldn't have even looked or cared.

Also, do ding kings work well on those kind of dents?
when ever i am in a public parking lot i park away from everyone, or find a big parking stall...
at work, thank god for reserved parking! first the parking stalls are huge, and if i ever get a door ding at work, i know who to go after!

My GF and I call those last spots End Slices...as in a loaf of bread.....and I know exactly what you are saying. We treat all 3 cars the same way. In the parking garage at the office I usually get a solo spot with two huge poles, one on either side of the car, so cars next to me are at least 2-3 feet away.
