a funny story about doing dumb things on the freeway in the middle of the night...didnt know where to post it.
i didnt think it belonged in the advanced braking section but its too good to not share.
i used to live in burlington VT. everyone there likes the band phish........except for me.
a couple of my buddies decided that one wednesday night in 2003 they were gonna drive his 3rd gen the 4 hours from Burlington to Boston to see a phish show. they brought several ounces of pot, mushrooms, xanax, and other random illicit chemicals.
they tripped at the show, obviously smoked a ton of weed, took all kinds of pharmaceuticals, drank, etc, etc, etc. so the show ended, its 3 am on a quiet weeknight, and they decide to attempt to drive home (on the mass pike of all places - one of the most heavily policed highways in the northeast). now to be fair, the highway is deserted at this time of night.
after about a minute on the highway one of them realizes he forgot his cellphone at the concert venue.....they all agree THAT IT WOULD BE FASTER TO DRIVE IN REVERSE BACK TO THE ON-RAMP, then to go to the next exit and turn around.
so its the middle of the night, not a headlight in sight, and 4 drugged out hippie stoner morons are driving in reverse on the mass turnpike. well low and behold a car comes outta no where - smashes into them. all the windows of my buddies car break. one kid supposedly was half hanging out the car. the trunk is crushed, but no one is hurt. it takes a couple of seconds, but they realize they are f*cked. tons of drugs in the car, not one of them is sober, AND they were driving backwards on a highway.
my friend said he couldnt stop shaking. he said one of his friends was gonna book it into the forest but didnt.
so i guess a cop was somewhere near enough to see the explosion of metal and glass and light and showed up at the scene not too long after it happened. he pulled up behind the car that hit them and talked to the driver for a minute. he then walked up to my friends car and first asked if they were alright and then asked for liscence, registration and insurance.
so hes inspecting the registration on his clipboard with his flashlight, looking down and says, calmly "yea that guy is so drunk he thought you were driving in reverse".
my buddy DIDNT get searched, kept all his drugs, got a ride back to vermont from a city cab and ended up getting a new car....
he got a VW, but its still a good ending.
