depressurize the fuel line. unscrew clamps..pull hoses off..install new filter..tighten clamps..start the car..go go go.

to depressurize the fuel lines...remove the fuel pump fuse and start the car...wait for car to die...try to start car again (it shouldn't) then you're good to go...

lets just say that I missed this step when I replaced mine. Very messy sight.

I tried to plug mine with a finger. Didn't know fuel was so hot...ouch.

One more advice

Get some latex gloves before you start. Gasoline stinks and the smell will stay on your hands if you don't wear any gloves.

Man.. you guys are all wussies! just unscrew the clamps, wrap it in a rag, turn your head, and pull the hose off!

then throw the rag on the driveway and hit it with a lit match..
be sure to drink several beers before and after.

Better yet, light a match before you take off the clamps and use it as a flame thrower to torch that neighbor you don't like.....peace to all!

Do I have to put the hoses back on?

Thanks for the advice, especially Chris, otherwise I would have pulled the same thing DaBox did!

Another way to depressurize the fuel system is to take the gas cap off.. the hissing sound is pressure being released

Doh! I'll remember the gas cap next time!

Thanks everyone I got it done...only a little fuel leakage.

btw, my dad told me there really is no need to replace the fuel filter since fuel is filtered many times anyways.
My response to him is that there is a filter in the car for a reason and I doubt it's stayed clean for 10years. Silly ME's...prove my dad wrong.
