One item is from Blehmco, but it's not a tie bar. One item is totally old-school, one's an interior mod, and one is probably the best mechanical mod you can do to a VG. Oh, and one is something I've only seen on Matt's car.

Alright, John spoiled my little game...I bought a VLSD 5-speed to be installed over the winter and a 2-tone Katzkin interior with dual power front seats. I also got a Courtesy Nissan FSTB (old-school), a Blehmco RSTB, and some still-in-the-box OEM GXE fog lights.

I was unaware of the existence of GXE fogs until last week...Very cool!

 

me too, what's the difference between SE & GXE fogs?

 

SE fogs put out more HP

 

They were a rare dealer-installed option, and are smaller than SE fogs. I'll try and post pics tonight before I leave my computer for a week and a half.

Q45's huh? Very nice, Wayne...I highly recommend them. I will be painting mine black here when I rebuild them. Which way are you going to install them: 1) Grind the **** out of the Maxima brackets and caliper and add some aluminum rotor spacers (I have a set if you want them ) or 2) have a few mills taken off the outer edge of the rotor? (Supposedly 3mm, but I ended up needing 5 or 6mm shaved off)

these look like 2 pot brakes. Are they designed to be used with the stock front rotors? I'd think that shaving 5mm off one side of your rotor was a bad thing. Thats half a centimeter!

Or do you mean reducing the overal diameter of the rotor??

 

Outer diameter reduction = lathe turning = uniform material removal...Yes they are 2-piston calipers...from the 1st gen Q45 or J30...doesn't matter which...

 

I will be shaving down some Q45 brembos..

 

Good call...but you will also need to cut a few notches in the metal backing on the brake pads.

 

you shaving the edge to make it round? or shaving it so its a smaller rotor (diameter)

I didn't know it was there, but apparently it's a 20-25 lb weight found in GXE's for "weight distribution" or some crap...pointless

And there's no point in posting a pic of the tranny...you all know what one looks like...

 

What was the damage on them fogs mang?

 

A bit less than the dealer charges, but I still have to order the install kit from Nissan...the light kit and install kit are sold separately.

Hmm, there's about 3- Q45s and 5- J30s at the JY...and I can get calipers ridiculously cheap. What do you guys say?

Are J30 and Q45 calipers exactly the same? if not, which one is better?

All I'll need is the calipers, rotors with 5.5mm shaved off the diameter, and file the pads a bit right?

 

They are a little different,but not by much..As far as which one is better,i don't know.

You also need to cut the dust shields off..

 

isn't there some sort of hassle with mounting brackets or something?

No sir,the pads/rotors are different from maxima/Q45..

 

BAH, I figured the maxs rotors were just thinner and the calipers would hold on still.

Pads I had a feeling I'd have to get.


WEll, if the JY has decent q45 rotort and pads too I'll do the BBQ this weekend

 

Well you could use the maxima rotor,but the whole point of having a "bigger brake" system would be lost..

 

I am sure it would be ok; still just seems risky to be rigging brakes on a car they weren't designed for by shaving the caliper and making pads fit. But I have a 4Runner and I have read threadsd where people do the same for Tundra brakes to clear the rims.

 

lol..many members have put other cars brakes on their maximas dude...300ZX (Z32) calipers/w mustang cobra 13" rotors are a very popular brake upgrade,along with the J30/Q45 calipers/rotors.

Also,you don't shave the calipers,you shave about 4-5mm off the top of the Q45 rotors,this will not affect the rotors performance/safety in the least..As far as the pads are concerned,the section of metal you need to shave off them will not effect the pads rigidity/strength at all..

 

i bought one of those kits a few years ago and never used it...would you be interested in buying it from me?

 

If the Q45 brake upgrade needs to be discussed any further, let's start a new thread...I did put some on my car back in June, so it's fresh in my mind if any questions arise...Although it looks like Wayne has his pretty much under control. Also, I highly recommend adding braided SS brake lines to this setup if you haven't done so already.

Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to say that the front and rear strut bars I added are amazing! I didn't think it would be that noticeable, but it is...this car handles like it's on rails! I suppose since the suspension is already at this point I should go ahead and add a lower tie bar and sway bars...that, along with adding a VLSD and popping the struts off to tighten them down a bit over the winter will go a long way...then the only thing this car will be lacking is more power...I wish turbo kits were cheaper...
