3rd Suspension

I'm trying to get rid of my Ksport coilovers and wanted opinions on s-tech springs. I went from stock to H&R/Illuminas to Ksports. I was wondering how the s-techs compared to the H&R springs. I'm really just looking for something that is not too bumpy like my blown ksports are. Also what's a comparable shock to the illuminas?

For spring and strut setups I would say the illuminas would be best unless you want to move up to Konis. Thought about Eibach/Illumina or Eibach/Koni?

For what you are looking for the most important factor is springrate vs. dampening.

I'm not really picky at this point. I'm just tired of my back hurting everytime I drive my car. How's the dampening on the koni's compared to the illuminas? I plan on driving near full stiffness. Where I live there aren't many big potholes, but there are a lot of small bumps and dips in the roads.

I would say that both could handle DD duty with lowering springs just fine. To answer your question (I think your asking) the Konis are capable of stiffer dampening as they can handle much higher springrates with no problem.

The Konis are only rebound adjustable, so compression damping (mostly what contributes to ride) will be fixed.

Illuminas are more on the soft side IIRC.

Konis are also a better strut overall. Better build quality, longevity, and they can be paired with a wider selection of spring rates.

Another question

I noticed on Koni's website it said "Special McPherson strut insert bolted into O.E. housing after cutting top and removing old internal parts" for the front shocks. Do I have to do this myself or does it come from the factory like that? I want to refrain from messing anything up here. My parents also threw my stock suspension away while I was at school.

Then you're boned.

The Konis are "strut inserts." You need to gut stock strut casings and insert the Konis. It shouldn't be too hard to find some stock struts in a junkyard somewhere, or you might be able to find someone who has blown stock struts that will sell 'em to you for cheap...

I had the S-Techs w/ AGX on my old 4th gen( still got the suspension actually for sale), and they didnt ride bad compared to when I had k-sports. My springs/struts actually rode better than the k-sports. The ride wasnt comfy, but it wasnt bad where I got complaints

Eibachs paired with illuminas covers the range of "firm" with excellent handling and the ride is still good enough, even on 18s, that my pregnant wife doesn't complain about the ride......good for the street, good for the track.

do it.
