Hey everyone -

The poll is whether you would rather buy a car with a fresh clutch (probably the 2000+ 3.0L version) or have the price reduced accordingly ($500) to let you pick your own clutch.

Detail: I'm planning on selling my 1999 Maxima SE w/125k miles (w/LSD) in the next few months, and am debating whether to replace the clutch. I would guess it still has 20k miles left on it, as I feel it grabbing pretty well, but I'm debating whether it would be better ($ wise) for me to replace it, or just let the future owner know and reduce the price ($500?) accordingly (so that they can choose their own clutch package).

EDIT: corrected the 2000+ maxima engine to a 3.0L from a 3.5L.

 

Put it up for sale w/o the clutch.

Let the buyer decide if they want a lower price w/o the clutch, or if they want you to do it for a higher price.

FTR, it's the 2000-2001 3.0l clutch. The 35,l clutch will not work.

Hummm, you'd be silly to replace it, I almost voted to replace it thinking the thing was a slippery chatterbox, but it sounds like that is not the case. Tell them AFTER the sale that you know these cars very well and you would be glad to service their car in the future if they ever need a clutch or brakes etc etc, and that since they bought the car from you you will give them a very fair price. If this is something you can handle obviously. But I definitly wouldn't reduce the price $500 though.

 

20k left on the clutch is a half decent amount. That could last another 5 years or another year depending on the drivers abilities.

I'd sell the LSD tranny then sell the car. Have a local org member who wants it come by and do all the work, swap trannies, pay for it, and then sell the car for the same price. No sweat off your back (just an idea)
