Nissan dealer not so bad!
After all the talk about how so many people's rotors seem to be warped I felt compeled to take mine to the dealer to see what they say. I dropped it off last night after speaking with a SM, I left a description of the problem (brakes pulsate at highway speed once hot). Expecting the worst (i.e. we want to cut your rotors or worse no problem found) I was pleasently suprised after lunch to hear from them. I asked what they determined and he replied, we confirmed that the rotors were warped and rather then cut them we have replaced them as well as the pads, you can pick it up once the paperwork is finished in about 20 mins. As you can guess i was estatic!! New brakes after 1yr & 3mos. and 19,900 miles.
I asked why they failed so soon and he basically made something up about being improperly counter-balanced or something, I really wasn't listening. He said it wasn't the first time he'd seen it, so it appears that someone else fought that battle already and left me with an easy path to new brakes!
So as much as some people say that Nissan dealers are bad news, I have to say that some are doing thier job and keeping the customers happy. I have yet to have a bad experience with this car, the rotors were really the only thing that bothered me and I obviously got hooked up. I'm am sorry for the folks dealing with more resistant dealers and nagging problems, but my advice is to try another dealer until you find a good one.
For those of you with warped rotors on your 2k, take it in to the dealer!! They will replace them, mine did without one bit of arguing. And mine is over a year old and over 12k mi. so that obviously doesn't matter if it's within reason! Good Luck

I think you hit in right on the head! You went into your dealer knowing about other problems...but you did not go int there talking about all of your friends having the smae problem....you just kept your cool...and the dealer treated you right. That is good to hear! Anyone that spends this much on a car should be treated that way! I think you are right about "someone laying the track for you though!" That always helps!
No problems with my dealer either...replaced mine with no trouble at all...must be pretty common...or must be pretty dangerous so for liability reasons they replace them as soon as customer says something instead of a recall...and I agree...not saying that "my friends car has this problem" helps also...act like you know what your talking about!

Anyway they are pretty open to fixing most of my problems...my advise to you is to send the service team an e-mail of praise...they really do appreciate it...mine is hanging on the service department bulletin board
They love me

Speaking of dealers' being pains in the asses about everything, does anyone know how they are compensated by Nissan? I always assumed that Nissan paid them money to do recall + warranty work, so why do they always seem to put up such a fuss?
well, I asked my dealer what the freakin problem
was with service. It sounds like Nissan runs warranty like a HMO. One dealer said they didnt want to do the TCM because they were afraid Nissan would leave them holding the bill. Even for the module itself. it seems that in lean times, there were some service departments that really got jacked around. (and may still be getting jacked around). Yeah, I think they would jump at the chance to do work, but I think they try to make sure its an obvious problem for fear of getting stiffed.
Paul, I went to Passport Nissan in Alexandria. Seem like a good buch of guys, I've only been there for an oil change previously. (I didn't even buy the car there).
I don't know if I just got lucky or what, they weren't badly warped, in fact on the way to drop it off i was testing it a little to see what speed I should tell them to try it at and I couldn't get it to do it. Last weekend at 120mph they felt really bad but no way I'm letting someone else get on the road with my car to do 120. I was just nice to the guy and said that I wanted him to check it out b/c I was sure they were warped and I rotate my own tires using a torque wrench, so unless they overtightened the lug nuts at the factory that wasn't the cause. I told him straight out that I have almost 20k on it and it's been doing it for about 3-4k mi. and I know that's kind of high miles to be asking for them to replace my brakes but I sincerely feel that it's premature for them to be like that. he agreed and told me to drop it off, but he couldn't guarantee they would replace them with that many miles, I guess he was given the okay by someone?
My motto when initiating any negotions such as this is "you catch more fly's with honey than vinegar" meaning BE NICE! you can't go in there hollaring right off the bat, if you start off ranting and raving, besides pissing them off, what can you escalate to when they don't help you?
Overall I'm very pleased with these guys and they have earned my business from now on, as well as my good word to all nissan owners. I think I will write a letter thanking them, I'm sure most of the letters they get are complaints so a nice one will be appreciated and remembered.

my problem with being nice....
I am always VERY nice. But you get that cold shoulder, then you walk off wondering if they heard a damn word you said. 99% of the time they did in fact completely blow you off. I have stopped being a pushover, and now I'm very assertive. not a jerk, not rude, just very assertive. Really your car can come out worse than when it went in.
I dont threaten them, but I try to let them know that I'm a 5%-er. I am the picky guy thats gonna find that scratch or know that you joy rode it all weekend. I always say, Look I know that you guys know what youre doing, but...

warped meaning not straight, when your rotors are warped they no longer provide linear braking b/c they aren't perfectly flat. This causes the steering wheel to shake when you apply the brakes, there are high and low spots on the rotor so you get harder braking at the high spots and softer at the low spots but it happens very fast when you are moving fast. This happens to them for a variety of reasons, overheating, cooling to quicky, or torquing the lug nuts to tightly are the most common reasons.
