Chariot gets KO'd at Masteron in Second Round

Well thats all she wrote. I was a big sucka today and was too lazy to upload the rev limiter dandymax setup for me. The track was going to turn out to be pretty good this weekend. I started off with a sad 60 foot still putting up a 13.7@101 mph pass.
Video: http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=UwpjTI2Y2n0

Then on my second run, Round 1 Qualifying im ready to hit it again, a bit better run this time, im running third, go for the 3-4 shift (miss it ) and the without the rev limiter the rpms just maxxed out to however high it goes

Such a stupid thing to do. Drove the car into the pits. Oil light was on and wouldnt turn off. The engine was making some nasty noises. A few guys said they bet i had no oil pressure, something about the oil pump might be shot, and the bearings are trashed.

Video of Run http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=DwQ2LIVzVIk

What do you guys think, should I have someone take a look at the engine, I have the VQ30DE-K sitting in the garage. Use parts off the engine.

Or just swap the VQ30DE-K in and toss this one.

Or just do the VQ35DE swap ?

Other option is to move on and park the chariot for a few years ?

Just gutted, such a stupid thing to do. talk about learning the hardway

Sorry to hear about that..Love your car BTW.. I thought the cams were not as aggressive on the VQ30DE-k but i don't know if that will make much of a difference for you. I was thinking of swapping in a VQ30DE-K m motor just went out last night so i think i will just see if i can afford the 3.5 swap. I think you should go that route. With your driving and that chariot you would be in the 12's..GL with w/e you choose.

Rev limiter can not help you if you miss shift.

Ouch! I know that feeling when an engine lets loose...and with the engine in my Chevelle, it was instant death. INSTANT!

The power is not really that much different. If i were you i would go 3.5. A lot faster and more fun to drive.

Wow really bummed to hear that Chris. I was hoping to see a 13.4 out of you this weekend! Based on your description it's VERY likely you blew the oil pump up and your rod bearings are damaged, at the least.

It won't be worth the labor to repair this engine at all, so I guess the next step now depends on your budget mostly, and how happy or not you'll be staying around the same level of performance you're currently at. If you toss in the DEK you already have this will be the cheapest route, since you won't have to buy hardly anything more than what you already have parts-wise, already having an 00VI swapped DE. The only thing I'd do is switch the intake cams out of the DE into the DEK engine. So this is the easiest and cheapest route, however your resulting power/performance will be similar to what it is now.

If you want to get faster then consider the 3.5, but I know that won't be cheap at all for you to do given your location. PM/email me/AIM etc if you wan't to talk more about details (and as you know I'm in the middle of putting together all the pieces of my 3.5 swap now).

Again sorry to hear, trust me I know exactly how it feels...

What i really was trying to say that, imo the 3.5 would be better because the de-k is like the same thing. You have been around a lot longer then me? What do you mean by this knowledge for cars or age? Probably age...

Sorry to hear about the chariot! She's always done good. I vote 3.5.

With revving like that I'm sure the oil pump went like others said. I read on hear somewhere that people are swapping in different oil pumps when they extend there rev limiter. I don't remember what pumps they were using.

Wasn't it you (Dandymax) that did this

It most definitely can. The only time it won't is if you shift from 3rd to 2nd, for instance. In this case, 4th gear wasn't engaged at all and he free revved it like he would in neutral. A rev-limiter would have prevented the free rev.

To the OP: Sorry to hear about this man. That engine served you well.

Not 100% confirmed, but even if so.... it wasn't the oil pump's fault.

you think if it was the pump that it was caused by the difference in block vibrations between a 3.0 and a 3.5 that the pump doesnt handle well?
