warpspeed y-pipe and cat.....

ok, no flaming and i promise i'll delete post asap. i have a 95 max and it's new from cat back, but i want to try a warpspeed y and cat. i talked to a dude named dallas at warpspeed today and he sounded pretty convincing when it came to their product. i need a video of someone's whip with a warpspeed y and cat with a stock res to muffler. i just want to make sure that its not gonna sound like someting an 18 would like to be in. i want more power at the wheels, but i dont want a loud *** exhaust. anyone with a link would be appreciated. thanks>>>

Its not so much that they are loud flex sections, they are just known to have a bee's in the can sound. Mine has it a little, but I rarely notice it, esp. over my CAI. As far as performance goes they are fine. As far as fit goes- the only problem we had was the doughnut gaskets they gave us were the same size as stock, but the flanges built into the pipe were slightly smaller, so they didn't fit perfectly. We got them to work, though with no leaks.

I personally went with the Budget Ypipe. It was cheaper than the Warpspeed, which made it more appealing initially. Personally, I didn't notice the exhaust any louder then the factory Ypipe (which was what I wanted--I hate loud exhaust). But I did notice a bit of a power increase. Not to mention, if for no other reason, it makes access to your 02 sensors SO much easier and drops a couple of easy pounds off your car. Hell, it's even cheaper than the factory Ypipe. I have absolutely no complaints of the Budget Ypipe. And definitely never had any 'bees buzzing' noise. Maybe I'm just lucky though.

I installed a Warpspeed Y-pipe and Cat one year ago. The rest of my exhaust is stock. The exhaust is only a little louder than stock. Not very noticeable. Although I am concerned about having an exhaust leak because the flex section is not lined like the stock Y-pipe. I would consider getting a y-pipe with a lined flex section if one is available.

I replaced the cat at the same time because I did the installaion myself and the cat bolts on the y-pipe side had no threads left and looked like they were welded on. This was due to rust. I ended up removing the Cat and Y-Pipe as one piece.

Other then the flex section the quality and fit of the Warpspeed was good. It seemed like a good idea at the time but I really have not noticed improved performance due to the new Y-pipe. Maybe a little better mileage due to less weight and less backpressure. If your stock Y-Pipe and Cat do not have to be replaced consider using the money to buy some nice tires or wheels.

not to jack the thread or anything, but i had a quick question. did anyone have any problems getting the MAFS off, like should i take the pipe itself off first then take the MAFS off or try and take the MAFS off before i take the y-pipe off. i have no idea how i would come about doing that though, because my crescent wrench cant really fit in there.

Trolling is different than thread jacking, IMO.

Maybe people should buy more tools than 'just a crescent wrench'.

Just wondering why you would need to remove the MAFS prior to installing a y-pipe.

OK>...
Couple of months ago i got a Warpspeed y pipe, and dude it was soooo worth it.

At first i got bees in a can sound, but i took my heat shield off and it was fine. All i have is a ypipe and a mufffler, and it sounds mean as ish, no bees. Ofcourse power wise its hardly noticable.

Only prob i had was fitment, but i went to an exhaust shop and they cut it, and its fine.

i dont know, the instructions called for removing the MAFS before removing the y-pipe and i was just scratching my head wondering how to get them off without taking the pipe off, and if i did take the pipe off if id have enough leverage to take them off with the pipe off...

sorry for calling you a **** bro.

Cattman is always the best quality. Always. But, of course, a little more pricey.

just got my warpspeed y-pipe on today. its very nice, the car picks up a lot better. i couldnt tell you how much it was louder then the stock y-pipe with the stock exhaust because i already have a greddy SP2 on my car. But honestly i dont think you would really get too much more noise installing the new y-pipe with the stock exhaust on. i would just go for the new catalyctic too, just because my cat looked pretty junky and the bolts were a real pain to get off. but its your call, buying the new cat wont give you any performance gains but its certainly a lot nicer then the old one on your car.

did you have any problems getting the 02 sensor off of the original cat??? i heard that they rust on there, also, did you cut off that little peice off the back of the resonator, its restrictive because its only letting about an inch of airflow to get through. the guy at warpspeed said it can only help with your exhaust. do you have a video clip of the new y-pipe?? i've heard soo many vaiations but would love to hear a fresh clip. thanks>>>

resonator? sorry im pretty much a noob when it comes to cars. haha. yeah the 02 sensor right by the cat was definately one of the toughest parts, and the bolts on the cat. theyre pretty much welded/rusted onto the cat. ill try to get a video clip up, if i can find a digital camera somewhere around here.

If you have access to a nice torch, I think that is the easiest way to get the bolts off of the cat. We just melted right through the bolts. Same for the rest of the y-pipe, too, for that matter.

My friend has a wrapspeed on his and I think the quality is a little lacking. I had a budget on my max and really like the fit and finish plus it sounded great. Cattman to me is a little expensive but you have to pay to play.
