WTB : Torx T50 Tamper/ Security bit

Hello all,

I am hoping someone on here has a Torx T50 Tamper bit they do not want anymore since Nissan decided to use some ridiculous sized tamper bolts on our airbag.(The one with the little hole in the center of the star.) I have found many, but everyone wants like $15-20 for this thing (well $3 for the tool and friggin like $10-$15 to ship it!!!!), and a set runs over $25. I need to use this exactly 4 times. Twice to remove old wheel, twice to install new one. I REFUSE to pay that much for something I will never use again. I am quite the tool collector, as I even have a set of the smaller ones, but this is just retarded and I don't wanna spend that much. Ad of course everyone local either has up to T45, or an insanely priced set, yet not ONE single. Lemme know Guys/Gals, Thanks a bunch.

You can try and buy a cheap T50 and drill the center of it.

I thought about that, and may resort to that if nothing turns up cheap, I have a gazillion regular T50's for working on Generic Motors.

Thanks though!

Hmm, I didn't know I could do that. Do they deliver to the store when you order online? I had already been to Sears, and all they have is the whole set and singles up to T45 (DOH!!). I had also tried Harbor Freight and found goose egg.

Yes just buy it on line and pick it up at the store, I did it before at bestbuy there's usually no shipping charged as it's using the company's shipment schedule.

Interesting. My Sears had two sets and they both went up to size T50. One was craftsman, and the other brand I can't remember. The off brand was found in the Automotive Speciality tools section.

I tried drilling a T-25 or whatever size the MAF screws are and its not easy. The bits are hardened steel and even a cobalt bit didn't faze it. A larger size should be easier to work with but make sure you have some tough bits or a diamond coated grinding point etc. If its not torqued down all that much you can use a flat head screwdriver to break the bolts loose. Worth a shot at least.

No, the sets did have a T50 included, it was the singles they only had up to T45. I don't need a whole set of tamper torx bits, esp when I have 2 complete sets of standard Torx bits (from T10-T60). I REFUSE to spend $25 for 1 Tamper Torx bit I will use exactly 4 times. (That is what the price is of the cheaper of the whole sets Sears had that you speak of).

Quikkota - I am not gonna try the drilling out the bit. I already knew it would be way too difficult. Although the flat head idea I will however give a shot. Before I do this, I will also try calling a couple shops that I personally know Techs at, see if they may have one I can borrow. Don't really know what else to do, except buy the whole set then return it when I'm finished, claiming I didn't need it. (I am not saying this is what I am gonna do, just it is becoming an option.)

what about going to the dealer? maybe they will help you out, if they dont feel like being ****s? actually, on second thought, i dunno about that....since they will think ur messing around with the airbag.....but its worth a shot?

I guess its a shot, but I agree. When it comes to airbag stuff, (for obvious reasons) they could be a little weary. Since its like 3 degrees here and I don't have a heater in my garage, this will prolly be a spring break thing. I will also be installing my Mevi and respraying my car. (Geeze, who wants Cancun or Miami when you can be doing all that in good old Youngstown, Oh!? Lol) I am just hoping maybe someone ends up havin' one before then...

My local Shucks had a cheapo set that had the T50 in it. Couldn't have been more than $10.

More than likely. I really doubt the torx bolt is different between 95-99's.

You're going to need more than luck. LOL Trying to drill those is damn near impossible. IMO, I'd just get the real thing.
