deatschwerks phase 2 injectors

I've replaced all six injectors with a phase 2 set from deatschwerks (original being phase 1), I'm having a problem clearing the connectors with the middle plate of the intake manifold. Whats the best drill bit to use to shave off some aluminum? So far I've tried a stone grinder (stupid idea, aluminum melted into the stone).

I will post a small write up and pics after the project is successfully finished.

You should be able to find a cutting bit at Home Repo, or try and find a metal shop around. We used to use them in manufacturing class to clean up casts. The metal easilly flakes off, work peice should be in a jig though.. If you aren't concerned with the way it looks, you can probably get away with just freehanding it with a dremel or fast drill.

Turbo coming?

both styles can be modified greatly however higher flow phase 2 injectors are generally cheaper and more plentiful than phase 1 injectors.

i have not done this to my particular car but im friends with mike at deatschwerks and ive discussed it with him. i personally run the newest Nissan style top feed injectors. For grinding the aluminum away i would recommend a steel or carbide bit made for aluminum.

The car is up and running as of wed night. I did have to dremel into the mating surface of the middle plate a little but so far it’s running fine (after some hiccups on wed of course). I started it up and it idled perfect but wouldn’t rev past 2k, I let it sit, clamped my pcv hose down (I forgot it), started it again, it would rev but the idle was bad now. So let it sit overnight, Thursday started it and everything was fine and I've been driving it since. After I fill up the tank and drive for a week I’ll post some info up on the mileage. How do I measure the fuel ratio (rich, lean or good)?

check your MAF

IIRC the ECU give some sort of reading for the o2 sensor.

"check your MAF" You're right anytime I bump the MAF connector the car thinks its not there. Its corroded as well know where I can get another connector and solder it on?

The injectors are perfect so far. I've gotten 360 miles (half highway, half city, on 89octane) out of one tank. I was going to post a small write-up and some pics of the cut center plate if there is any interest, if not then I wont take up the space.

I did have an intermittent gas smell before but now its all the time, I've replaced the hoses to the charcoal canister, I guess next step replace the canister itself, will a junkyard one suffice or spend the money for a new one?

did you replace the hoses around the manifold and to the fuel rail as well?
you should have replaced them ALL when you did the injectors.

I doubt it is the canister unless the car was in an accident, and if it is a used one will work fine.

I did the vac hoses but not the fuel hoses. But since they're still reachable I'll go ahead and knock it out.

The smell is coming from the back of the car so I'll get under there near the tank and check the hoses I can reach. Thanks for the help and advice.

Sounds like your overfill hose may be leaking, common problem on the 3rd gen.

+1 i had the same problem last year. i would leak about a shotglass worth of gas everytime i filled up. and there was a gassy smell too. nor did i have any pressure release when i undid the gas cap. hose is a little bit tough to get at, but i still managed to get it done. measure the old hose precisely, it's going to save you a little bit of frustration, and use the biggest hose you can get. mine wasn't big enough so i had to use a smaller diameter of fuel hose in the middle... then use the still-good ends, and use adapters to keep it airtight. as long as you have the slice either at the very end or the very middle, you can do it my way, because you will have enough length (if at the end) to cut the good part in half and patch the middle, or cut around the bad part and have decently long ends.

but your best bet is to get a full hose. from nissan. or if not i think it's 5/8 ID right?

Best place to get it is from nissan, it should come prebent so you won't run into any rubbing issues later on.
