Car is making a weird noise when turning

My car is making a weird "wet rubber squeak" noise when I'm tuning the wheel but not to full lock. From inside the car though it sounds more like a metal clunking sound. My thoughts are the wheel bearings at first but I'm not sure. I noise doesn't seem to tie down either when I slightly apply the brakes. My CV joints are good from what I can tell (no tears or cracks), the tie rod ends could be replaced (age), the ball joints could be replaced also (age) and no suspension work has been done at all. Could it be the rotors and pads acting up? I just don't want to go throwing money at it. Thanks.

how many miles? rotors shouldnt make noise when turning, if they were warped, i think they would prob do it all the time while driving and applying brakes.

The car has 109K on it at the moment. The rotors and pads are what came on the car when I bought it at 97K. I can tell the rotors are shot because of the heat spots on them...they may even be the stock rotors. I've decided to just buy new rotors, pads and calipers from a 6th gen to fix that part. It seems to do it only when either side gets loaded, not when the wheel is straight.

I appreciate the help though. Mine started off like yours too.

Well everyone is was the driver's side wheel bearing. Replaced the wheel bearing and the hub assembly and all was fixed.

The wheel bearing was about $50 and the hub assembly (mine was bad) was about $160.

I wouldn't have guessed this from what you described. The mileage would have indicated it though!
I'm beginning to believe that replacing suspension components requires gutting all the major/minor pieces, just to be sure.

Getting rid of those brakes and rotors is next.

That is the funny part. The garage put new pads and rotors on before they would let it leave because the driver's side was shot. I plan on putting on the brake upgrade this weekend.

Just as a heads up to anyone get your wheel bearings looked at if you have any suspicious noises from up front. From the time that mine started to the time that the hub had over a few inches of movement was maybe 2 weeks.

thanx for the info.. are those the prices for just the parts, or parts and installation? Is installation of a wheel bearing hard? Mine makes that whining noise too when it's turned all the way, then gets quieter as it returns to normal position
