Help please. Two problems after two mods (MEVI and CA --> Fed Spec conversion)

I don't know if the problems are related or not but after installing a MEVI and doing a CA left bank exhaust manifold to Fed Spec lt. mani. conversion (Thanks to The Wizard for the install help!), I experienced two problems upon the first test drive.

The problems are 1.) a very high idle. It idles at about 1,500 to 2,000 Rs and never drops (unless in gear, then it drops to 1k). 2.) the auto shifts are extremely rough. They are violent, to say the least. I can't imagine how either of my two mods would cause either of these two problems. Advise?

I would love to figure this out today (03-01-08) as I was planning on dynoing my car tomorrow.

Info.: MEVI is your basic install, not much to elaborate on. The Fed. spec. conversion consisted of removing the CA lt. bank mani. and huge pre cat and installing a Fed. lt. bank mani. (from Fanaticrock - thanks), using a Fed. spec Y-Pipe and installing a Catman O2 simulator for the two downstream O2s. I feel good about the install of everything. No Service Engine Soon lights. We re-checked all the connections and everything seems fine (including the drop resistor).

I should mention that I just had my transmission replaced with an I30 VLSD and even though I don't have a lot of miles on it, the few miles I did drive before these recent two mods were installed, the transmission worked fine.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I would recheck vaccums. and see if there is anyleaks where the mevi and the lower meet. I dont know how the iavc hooks up to the mevi but when you installed the iavc to the mevi did you use a new gasket? if not that could be another problem as well. i have no clue about the CA to fed spec

Hope that helps you on the mevi though

your TPS within specs? did you put a new throttle body on or was it the oem one?

Are your shifts rough only on the 1-2 shift? Re-check your drop resistor.

+1 on drop resistor but those would be some HARD shifts at partial throttle if by chance you disconnected it. Not sure what a failing one feels like though, maybe its less dramatic.

Did you play with the IACV, TB, TPS, or EGR? I would check all of those while diagnosing your high idle.

As far as the transmission goes, as said above, try checking the drop resistor.

Thanks guys.

I will re-check the vac. lines. Last night I was reading a normal 18-20. Today I was getting 10.

All new gaskets were used for the VI.

I should have mentioned this. I did replace the TPS a little while ago. Yes it is in spec. 50 ohms when closed. 4800 when open. Again, this was not a problem prior to the install of these two mods.

I don't know if it's just 1-2 shift or 2-3/3-4. I reached the end of my block and turned around. But it's violent just going from P to R or P to D. The whole engine jumps. It feels like a neutral drop.

DR should be fine but I'll try swapping with my '96. But I've disconnected the DR before and it was not this bad.

It's weird. Today my idle did finally drop to 1000-1200 after I let her run for a long time. But now it fluctuates sporatically when in drive.

I am nowing hearing a BBs in a can sound at my transmission pan. This happens when the key is in the On position and when the car is running. I don't know why my trans would go right after these two mods but maybe?

Arrrggghhh. No dyno tomorrow.

3:30 am update. We traded my DR with my '96's. It solved the rough trans shift! Now I only have the high idle to deal with. I think I am going to go ahead and dyno tomorrow. I just don't get how the DR would go bad litterally 'overnight'. It was fine before the recent mods but not afterward? And why were the shifts soooo violent? I've disconnected my DR before and it was never this bad.

Anyway, any advise with the high idle is much appreciated.

Thanks again guys.

P.S. The VI is awesome in the high end! I finally have highway power. I can actually hit 11PSI now on the highway (my max. is 12). That was unheard of before. I'm stoked.

LOL. I got 322 WHP. I'll do an official thread pretty soon.

I still have the high idle problem but now it doesn't happen all the time. Weird. ECU learning the new mods?
