Quick help needed on a few seemingly unrelated problems

im a noob so hello to all,i drive a 95 maxima se just bought it the guy put in 99 max motor in there, there are some issues i would like to get fixed, the outside/frontend of the car smells like coolant, when i checked the coolant was low in the bottle, he replaced the axle the day i bought it, now everytime i turn it makes a clicking sound, its not the cv joint, since it has new axle. i took it to the shop the mech told i might have to replace the power steering rack, he said he can try just working with the p.s boot. but i read on here that it doesn't make a difference or anything. and also the ball joint needs to be replaced. the check engine light turned on and the bas light stays blinking he said thats because the airbags were just put in.my question is how expensive is this job, because i live on my own fulltime work/school i barely have time on top money is an issue, any help will be greatly appreciated, and thank you.

Check the codes yourself.

Clicking during turning typically means CV joint. Just because he changed them , or said he did, doesn't mean that's accurate. Visually inspect the systems in question --> CV joints and steering rack.

Replace the ball joint. They're cheap and easy to replace.

Read the stickies to find out how to get the codes and what they mean.

all 4th gen maximas have obdII. the port is located in a different place. Or you can read th stickies as instructed and use the screw method.

o really i thought it was 96 and up for the obdII, i read the stickies for the screw driver trick, but i did some research and the ball joint and the steering boot are fairly cheap both within 50 bux or less, but my question is now how much you think it would be for labor?

96 and up is mandated, Nissan was early with the '95. Search, and you'll see this question asked THOUSANDS of times.

Labor is a per-shop thing, depends on if they go by book rate or actual hours, or make up hours. Also how much they charge per hour, and for shop supplies and whatnot. Can't really estimate how much any random shop would cost.

Lot cheaper if you do it yourself...
